Pickett County Schools Dismissing Early Due To Threat

Pickett County schools have dismissed early because of a situation that occurred at Pickett County High School today.

The Pickett County Sheriff’s Office said all students are safe at this time and schools will be letting out early in order for officers to investigate the situation.

According to a written statement from the Pickett County Sheriff’s Office, “Statements made by a student have led some of the students to feel concerned. The Sheriff’s Office and Pickett County High School are taking all precautions to investigate and handle this situation in the most safe and effective way.”

The Pickett County K8 released a statement on its Facebook page saying that students had evacuated the building and that suspect was taken into custody.

The specific nature of the threat is unknown at this time.
