Cookeville Approves Agreement For First Public Art Sculpture

The Cookeville City Council approved an agreement with Art Round Tennessee last night for the construction of the city’s first public art installation, “Spokes.”

The 36-foot wide and 14-foot tall arch of bicycles will occupy the street-side entrance at the trailhead of the new Tennessee Central heritage Rail Trail.

Under the agreement, Art Round Tennessee will be responsible for designing, creating, and installing the sculpture, which was funded by an $8,000 grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission and $7,000 in donations.

Upon completion, the city will take ownership of the “Spokes” sculpture and be responsible for maintenance.
