Blood Assurance has sent a shipment of blood to Florida in the wake of Wednesday’s tragic school shooting that left 17 people dead.
Blood Assurance Donor Recruiter Trudy Cody said there’s a need for more blood donations from local residents in case more blood needs to be shipped to Florida.
“With that being said, we will not jeopardize our own local hospitals blood needs,” Cody said. :That always comes first with Blood Assurance, but when a tragedy like this happens and they reach out to us, we absolutely will do what we can to get that blood to them.”
Cody said Blood Assurance is continuing to communicate with the blood supplier in Florida and will continue to help if able.
Blood Assurance is asking for people with all blood types, especially those with type O-negative, O-positive, and A-negative, to donate at a Blood Assurance facility or mobile. Currently, Blood Assurance has only sent O-negative units but wants to be prepared to send other types if needed.
