Putnam County EMS has purchased a new type of ambulance.
It’s a van ambulance and EMS Assistant Director Darren Ford said it’s more economical than operating a larger ALS, or advanced life support ambulance.
“The purchase of the ambulance itself is much cheaper because it doesn’t need all the advanced equipment. It just needs the basics,” Ford said. “It’s approximately a third of the price of a full stocked advanced life support ambulance.”
Ford said the new ambulance will be utilized for basic life support. In other words, EMS will utilize it to take patients home from the hospital or to a doctors office appointment.
The ambulance was paid for out of this year’s capital outlay budget.
