Clay County hopefully won’t have to worry about finding and purchasing land to build a new jail on.
County Mayor Dale Reagan said that’s because the county hopes to build the future facility on land already owned by the county.
“I know a lot of other county’s have said that they had to look at the possibility of purchasing property,” Reagan said. “That’s one thing that we have right now, if the property works out. You gotta go through the environmental study and all that to make sure it’s going to be suitable for this facility.”
Reagan said the land sits on Highway 53, about two miles outside of town. The property was sold to the county several years ago, Reagan said.
Earlier this month the county commission voted to hire an architectural firm to begin the process of designing the new jail.
