Spencer’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen have voted to amend the city’s charter.
The charter change will reduce the Mayor’s salary from $63,000 a year to $45,000.
Town officials said the salary reduction will go into effect after the November 2018 city elections.
The board has also requested city attorney Ed Boring to draft two other charter amendments that would change the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor.
One of those proposed amendments would remove the Mayor’s responsibilities for the hiring, discipline, and termination of city employees and reassign those responsibilities to the city board.
The amendments will be voted on later this month.
