Cumberland Co. Woman Scammed Out Of More Than $15K

An 82-year-old Cumberland County woman has been scammed out of more than $17,000 after thinking she won a brand new BMW sports car.

According to police, the woman received multiple phone calls months ago from someone claiming she had won a car. In order to receive the vehicle, the scammer told the woman she simply needed to send $1,500.

Police said the calls continued, with more money demanded. By the time police received notice, the woman had made some 50-transactions with more than $17,000 sent during that time period.

Police said the woman’s money will likely not be recovered.
