Woman Shoots Herself As Deputies Attempt To Serve Warrant In Cookeville

A 44-year-old woman has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Putnam County.

Officials said the incident happened on Boatman Street around 10:00 a.m. as deputies attempted to serve an outstanding criminal court warrant against 44-year-old Norma Virginia Davis.

According to a press release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, during the attempted service, Davis obtained control of a firearm inside the home and intentionally discharged it, resulting in a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputies attempted CPR on Davis, but she later died at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
