Monterey Appoints New Alderman

The town of Monterey has a new alderman.

J.J. Reels will be replacing Joey Isabell who resigned from his seat on Monday after announcing that he moved out of the city limits.

Reels said his military background makes him the right person to help lead the town of Monterey.

“Being in the Navy, I was senior leader for my last seven to eight years. I had five or six supervisors working for me and 65 people at one time,” Reels said. “I’ve got leadership experience and I have a degree in criminal justice so I feel like I can be a voice in that matter and also help the board make better decisions.”

Reels will be formally sworn in during the January Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.

He will serve the remaining eight months of Isabell’s term and plans to run for re-election.
