Tonight, the Putnam County Board of Education will discuss whether kids will be in school on eclipse day.
Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said several weeks ago he’d prefer to keep kids in school, but he would defer to the board’s judgement. Discussing the eclipse is the last item on tonight’s school board agenda.
Most other Upper Cumberland counties have chosen to keep students in school that day.
Officials say they don’t know how many visitors will be in the Upper Cumberland for the event on August 21.
The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce said the city’s hotels are booked for that weekend. Many campsites are booked up as well. Tennessee Tech estimates a capacity crowd at Tucker Stadium for its eclipse event.
