$628,000 Grant for Baxter Sewer Repair

Baxter will repair its sewer system through a $628,000 Community Development Block Grant.

Baxter Mayor John Martin said this grant will help fix an leaking pipes within the system sewer system.

“We’re gonna utilize that $628,000 dollars to camera our systems,” Martin said. “To do repairs to try to alleviate some of the water that’s going into our system.”

Martin said Baxter’s Engineer is preparing to begin the engineering phase of the Community Development Block Grant project. Martin said the city is anxious to get things moving on this project, but it might take some more time. Especially, with the Portobello project happening at the same time.

“Anything like that, doing the engineering report, then you gotta bid both of the projects and that takes awhile,” Martin said. “So, its gonna be down the road before you see equipment starting.”

This grant comes through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Martin said he worked with State Senator Paul Bailey and Representative Ryan Williams to secure the funds.
