5 Wildcats Headed To Hall Of Fame Friday

Longtime Upper Cumberland broadcaster Drew Huffines will be inducted into the Livingston Academy Hall Of Fame Friday night.

The pregame ceremony will take place prior to the Wildcats’ home opener. Joining Huffines, Kevin Coffee, Ronnie Linder, James Sells and Kenny Webb. Wildcats Head Coach Matthan Houser said the ceremony is something he looks forward to every year and will make for an extra special home opener.

“They’ve really done a lot for the program over the years and it’s definitely something they deserve,” Houser said. “So, we’re excited to have them here and induct them into the hall of fame and we hope that a lot of guys that are already members of the hall of fame will show up and support that new class. And just have a good time in a good atmosphere.”

Broadcasting Wildcats sports as well as play-by-play for other local schools, a major part of Huffines’ career. Huffines said it is an honor to be inducted and he remembers how the community of Livingston rallied around the Wildcats.

“Just about every time there was a basketball game, it was a full house,” Huffines said. “Football was very big at that time, not much in baseball at that time. But, I got to where I was broadcasting all their games and that would have been 1958.”

Huffines said WLIV was one of the first radio stations he could get on early in his career and when he had the chance, he bought the radio station in the 1970’s. He said he has countless memories of broadcasting Wildcat ballgames and is excited to see old friends at the ceremony.

Houser said the five men being inducted exemplify what it means to be a Livingston Wildcat and the group that chose could not have picked this year’s inductees any better.

“We have a hall of fame council that gets together and discusses guys that have played here in the past,” Houser said. “What their achievements were on the field and what they achieved when they graduated. And so every year, there’s a some inductees that get recognized before our home game.”
