Van Buren County officials have announced a $300 million economic development project that will bring some 75 jobs to the county.
Jacksonville Florida-based Just Be Green will be creating a new alternative fuel generation facility off Highway 111 at the old BDS property.
“It’s very exciting for us and the county has property out there and we are going to provide that property to them,” County Mayor Greg Wilson said.
Wilson said the facility will be taking solid waste and converting it into diesel, which is called waste gasification. The process is one of the newest ways to deal with solid waste and it’s an environmentally-friendly solution by generating no emissions, Wilson said.
Wilson said the company plans to provide more jobs inthe county within the next three years.
“There is some by-products that will come from this, which will create some more employment opportunities,” Wilson said. “It’s just very exciting for us and we are looking forward to it.”
The company plans to be operational by the Spring of 2019.
