30 Acres On Neal Street Rezoned To Residential

About 30 acres north of Neal Street’s Honda Dealership could be used for residential development.

Planning Director Jon Ward said the owners submitted a rezoning request because the topography of the land made commercial development a challenge.

“Regional commercial zoning district does not allow for any type of residential development,” Ward said. “The developers have submitted a request to rezone to general commercial. Essentially, it is a down zone, but it does allow for residential types of development.”

Ward said general commercial zones still allow developers to construct commercial buildings. Ward said he is unaware of any plans for the land at this time. The 30 acres is a portion of a total of 90 acres.

“That tract of land has frontage on East Veterans Drive and Neal Street,” Ward said. “So, it is on the west side of Neal Street just North of the Honda dealership. Another portion of the property is south of Neal Street between South Maple Avenue and Old Walton Road.”
