2nd Annual UC Polar Plunge Registration Open

The Upper Cumberland will be freezin’ for a reason on March 6 with the second annual Polar Plunge in the region.

Upper Cumberland Polar Plunge Director Kaydra Cash said donating and fundraising for the plunge helps support the Upper Cumberland’s Special Olympic teams with equipment and travel expenses.

Although, Cash said that because of COVID, supporters will be able to do their plunge from home.

“Participants can do like a water hose down, a balloon fight, bucket challenge,” Cash said. “They have to video themselves to submit it to get credit that they actually did a plunge at home.”

Cash said to get registered or donate you can visit polarplungetn.com. There is a $50 dollar donation to plunge.

The main Polar Plunge is set to happen at the Sparta YMCA, but Special Olympic Athletes around the Upper Cumberland will receive donations.

“This money goes to each one of those schools and allows them to go on other events,” Cash said. “Pay for new uniforms or sports equipment or just anything that they may need and it’s for all ages of Special Olympics. High school down to elementary school, all schools in all the counties are benefited through this.”

Cash said that participants are supposed to plunge on March 6, even from home. However, she said if someone needs to do their challenge before, they will need to tag ucpolarplunge9 on Instagram.
