291 cases came off the Putnam County’s active COVID case tally Thursday afternoon.
The State Department of Health discovered multiple issues with the COVID data. Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter and Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster both have spent time in recent days on conference calls with state officials trying to get a more accurate count of data.
Across the Upper Cumberland, 883 cases were removed from the active COVID number. That includes 131 cases in Warren County, 120 in Cumberland County, and 99 in White County.
State Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey said the data changes resulted from errors in zip codes as well as a reclassification of active and older cases.
As of Thursday, Putnam County’s active COVID total stands at 306 residents. Cumberland County reports 217. White County’s positive case rate stands at 165. Warren County reports 162. A total of six Upper Cumberland counties have more than 100 active cases, including Overton at 111 and Fentress at 105.
Porter said multiple people had been classified to the wrong county. Cases had also been counted twice. Problems began to develop with the state contracted with outside firms to assist with contract tracing.
