2-Week Early Voting Period For Primary Election Starts This Week

Early voting for May’s State and County Primary Election begins Wednesday.

Overton County Election Administrator Craig Story said parties will chose a mixture of county office candidates to represent them in the August general election.

“You don’t know what the weather is going to be like on Election day, car may break down,” Story said. “There’s just all sorts of things that could happen. You want to be able to participate and have a voice that is heard. So, consider early voting.”

Voters will have two weeks until April 28th to vote early. Election day is on May 3rd. Story said all registered voters can vote early. Story said all you need is a photo I.D. issued by the state or federal government.

“In Overton County I like to tell people there’s not many people that aren’t in town during a two-week period,” Story said. “If you’re driving by and don’t see many vehicles parked in the parking lot at the community center, consider coming in and voting.”

Story said early voting takes less than 10 minutes. Story said bringing a voting registration card makes that process even faster. Story said you can expect judicial races, school board seats and county commissioners on the ballot.

Overton County residents will vote at Election Commission Office located at 312 W. Broad Street. Story said state law says campaign attire will not be allowed inside.
