16-Year-Old Leaves Hospital After Suffering Accidental Gunshot Wound

A 16-year-old from Putnam County has left the hospital after suffering an accidental gunshot wound to the leg Wednesday.

Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said the incident should be a reminder to residents.

“Individual responsibility and knowledge is really what we try to strive to get across,” Farris said. “When you own a firearm you are certainly responsible for it and your knowledge on how to handle that firearm in a safe manner in something we strive on.”

Farris said the Sheriff’s Office provides gun safety classes periodically. He also said it’s never too early for children to learn about gun safety.

Wednesday’s incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Southmeade Drive.
