Jamestown will host its 14th annual Community Concert this Saturday.
Event organizer and performer Justin Miller said that the event at the Jamestown Community Center will feature about 2 and a half hours of Elvis, country, and Christmas music. He said that the concert is free, but asks that attendees bring a new toy for admission if they can.
“I was raised that if somebody helps you, you know, you help them,” Miller said. “We’ve been helped so much with different things ourselves, so it’s just time to give back to our community.”
Miller said that the concert started as a way to get the community together in fellowship and music. He said that eventually, it evolved to have a charitable component as well. This year, he said that he is working with the Sheriff’s department for their annual toy drive.
“We all know there are families in need around Christmas time, especially in our community,” Miller said. “We all know that the real reason for Christmas is Christ. But we don’t want some child to be out there left out, we don’t want some child to not have a toy for Christmas, so that’s our main goal. Is to get as many toys as we can, that way we can help our local kids out in our community.”
Miller said that they understand that this year has been a struggle for some. He said that even if you can’t bring a toy or food to donate, they still invite you to partake in the entertainment, eat, and revel in the fellowship of the community. He said that he wanted to extend a special invitation to first responders, emergency workers, veterans, or active-duty military personnel, as they’ll have a special segment to honor those who have made many sacrifices in their line of work for others.
Miller said that the doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
