The City of Sparta YMCA will soon get relief from the heat.
Board of Alderman approved a $12,700 bid for a new 5-ton HVAC unit. City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the old HVAC unit hasn’t been replaced for over 20 years.
“What will be accomplished by adding this unit, we can direct the additional air flow to the weight room from the existing units and other areas will be served by the new unit,” Hennessee said.
Hennessee said the old HVAC system has been repaired at least twice over the past year.
The Sparta YMCA is a repurposed building and owned by the city. Hennessee said out of four bids, the city council approved Bailey’s Heating and Cooling of Sparta.
Bids for a new unit included traditional HVAC units, but the one to be installed will be ductless.
“I don’t have direct experience with the ductless units, but the research that was done for the bid process relieved any concerns that the city had in going with this type of unit,” Hennessee said.
City officials approved the bid Thursday.
