RV Destroyed By Fire In Cookeville

A fire destroyed an RV camper on Old Sparta Road in Cookeville Tuesday.

Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation at this time.

“From the information that we received, someone was towing it with another vehicle,” Blair said. “When it caught on fire they just pulled over and left. Law enforcement is checking on leads. We were able to get a VIN number, so hopefully we can get to the bottom and see exactly what is going on.”

The Cookeville Fire Department responded after receiving reports of an RV that caught fire on South Jefferson Avenue. Blair said crews located the burning vehicle just off Old Sparta Road around 3:00 p.m.

“One medium-sized RV was fully involved when we arrived on scene,” Blair said. “We had two crews on scene with seven personnel. The guys were able to get a quick knockdown and put it out.”

Blair said none of the firemen suffered injuries while fighting the fire.

“The guys did a great job with the humidity and the heat today,” Blair said. “A lot of people might not realize, but when they’re having to work in those circumstance with all their gear, it takes a lot out of them.”

One lane of Old Sparta Road was still blocked as of 3:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
