Alert Citizen And Cookeville Police Officers Stop a Burglary in Progress

Cookeville Police are giving credit to an observant citizen and two officers for stopping a burglary in progress early Wednesday morning.

According to a written statement from the department, the citizen reported a suspicious vehicle on Old Sparta Road around 3:00 a.m.

The statement said Officers began searching the area and eventually located 49-year-old Joel Barry hiding in the bathroom of a home. Barry allegedly had a pair of wire cutters and police located several pieces of cut copper.

Barry was arrested on a charge of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
