Willow Avenue Paving Project Nearing Completion

Work continues on the Willow Avenue paving project in Cookeville.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of November, but TDOT spokesman Jennifer Flynn said some work on manholes, catch basins, and sidewalks delayed the project’s completion date.

Flynn said she expects the project to wrap up within the next few week.

“We’ve also got to take into consideration the temperature because the asphalt in temperature sensitive,” Flynn said. “They will be working whenever they can to hopefully get this done before our lane closure restrictions kicks in.”

TDOT suspends lane closure activity for construction zones during the holiday seasons. Flynn said the $2.1 million project should be completed before Christmas.

“Upon completion of the project, our construction managers will determine if the contractor will be granted any extra time or if they will be assessed liquidated damages,” Flynn said.
