White County School Board Approves 21-22 Calendar

The White County School Board Thursday approved next year’s school calendar with one minor change.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the last day of school will be May 21st, which is on a Saturday.

“That’ll be a 9:30 on a Saturday, and that’s just to avoid coming back on that next Monday,” Dronebarger said. “After you have kind of been out, it seems kind of counter productive. So, you have to do 180 days, and sometimes it stops on Friday, and sometimes it stops on a Monday. That’s where the Saturday comes to play. That is really the only oddity.”

Dronebarger said fall break is the week of Columbus Day and spring break is the last week of March. The first full day of school for students will come August 6th.

“It is very similar this year’s calendar,” Dronebarger said. “Fall break and spring break are the same times.”

Dronebarger said the calendar was formed through a collaboration with the teacher advisory board and central office.

“It is a joint effort now,” Dronebarger said. “We used to have separate calendars that we voted on, but things with testing and all the required nonnegotiables that have to be in the calendar now, we do that together.”

According to the schedule, the year starts off with an administration day on July 30th. The next week begins with two teacher inservice days starting August 2nd. Student registration is August 4th.

A county wide open house takes place August 12th from 3:15 to 6:15 p.m. Report cards come home October 21st, January 7th and March 15th.  Christmas break begins after a half day on December 17th.

A Back-To-School Celebration at the White County Agricultural Complex is also planned for July, according to the schedule. A date is to be decided. The next White County School Board is February 11th at Doyle.
