White County Hormann Plant Wins Construction Award

The White County Hormann Plant has won best construction project for industrial facilities ranging from 25 to 50 million dollars.

TW Frierson Project Manager Brent Edwards said the Associated Builders and Contractors awarded the project based on its complexity and attractiveness.

“It is different then a lot of domestic industrial construction,” Edwards said. “I have built a lot of tan and white industrial buildings in my career and this one is bright blue and pumpkin.”

Edwards said the facility is a 320,000 square foot German styled building. 20,000 of that is used for office space, training facilities and a showroom for garage door products. The architects and contractors toured the Hormann headquarters for inspiration on the design.

“Anyone can drive by the building by the airport and see it,” Edwards said. “And when you see it, you know that company is here to stay. Companies do not put that color on the building and make those design decision with so much glass and some of the very specific requirements for that project. Companies do not do that if they want to build something cheap. This company is going to be around for a long time.”

Horrmann is a German multi-national producer of garage doors, serving customers in over 30 countries. They employ more than 6,000 people in plants in Europe, North America, and China.

Eventually, the Sparta products will be sold worldwide. Once operations are at max capacity, about 200 people will work at the location.
