White County Considering New Trash Trucks

White County Commissioners are considering purchasing two roll-off trucks for the county’s Solid Waste Department.

The two roll-off trucks combined will cost just under $500,000. White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said it is about time to replace the trucks as they have had the current ones for several years.

“Well we are just trying to update our fleet,” Robinson said. “Everything that we’ve got right now is pretty old and just need to update you know for the safety of the people on the roads and for the safety of our employees who work there.”

Robinson said in years past the county has bought used trucks instead of new ones. Robinson also said the county looked for used trucks but did not find one worth the money.

“Budget restraints are why we went used in the past and we were not able to really find anything that worked that well,” Robinson said. “There’s not really a market for these things. When people buy them they use them.”

Robinson said in most cases there is a reason the seller is trying to get rid of a used roll-off truck. Robinson said he hopes to have a better process next time around before problems arise.

“Maybe it will inspire some kind of regiment of replacing them regularly so that we don’t get behind the eight ball like we are now,” Robinson said.

Robinson said the trucks will help transport large containers to the various convenience centers throughout the county. Robinson said if approved the county will use funds from selling the landfill to pay for the trucks. Commissioners will vote on the proposal at the November 18th commission meeting.
