White Co School Board Approves Budget With Raises

A three percent raise for support staff and a $1,000 increase for teacher salaries included in the some $34 million White County School Budget.

McDonald said the teacher raises come from the state. The state increased the minimum salary to $40,000.

“I think with the money that we have set aside in our general purpose school fund I think we are in a really good spot to be able to offer competitive salaries for teachers coming in and the retention of those teachers,” McDonald said.

The school budget accounts for increased fuel costs and rising material prices. McDonald said the school board went through the budget line by line in a three hour work session.

“We talked about salaries, expenditures and the debts that we’re going to be incurring in the upcoming year,” McDonald said.

The spending plan now will go to the county commission for approval. McDonald said some money was leftover for bonuses at the end of the calendar year.

“Those are things that will come up in the future for future board meetings,” McDonald said.
