White Co. Commission Considering Deeding Mitchell’s Ford Bridge Kayak Access To State

White County Commissioners set to discuss the transferal of the Mitchell’s Ford Bridge Kayak Access area.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the almost two acres are right next to the Dog Cove Loop area. He said the county was able to upgrade the land and provide a picnic area and kayak access to the Caney Fork River.

“So we’ll turn over ownership to the state and add let that become part of the state natural area and add to it,” Robinson said. “And they’ll take care of all the maintenance and upkeep and that’ll free up local taxpayer money that we can use elsewhere.”

Robinson said the state has been very gracious and watching over the area anyway. He said releasing the land to the state will not create a big change in business, but just a change in deed.

“It’s not a hiking area but it’s really close and we’ll be incorporated into the hiking areas that are already there,” Robinson said.

Robinson said the county is excited to see the effects of adding the state natural area will be on the region. He said they look forward to having more tourist destinations to bring visitors into the county.
