Obituaries For Wednesday, November 21

Sarah Mae Smith, 86 of Quebeck, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Life Care Center of Sparta. Born Saturday, July 23, 1932 in Ft. Myers, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Hetti Boyette Smith. The family has chosen cremation. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Celebration of Life Services for Dr. Anthony “Tony” Harold Abston, age 54, of Byrdstown will be conducted 2 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018 from the chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Campbell will officiate. The family will welcome friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Tony passed from this life after a brief illness on Tuesday morning, November 20, 2018 from the St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville. He was born March 16, 1964 in Albany, Kentucky to Gary Earl Abston, and Shirley Sue Perry Neathery. Tony was a 1982 graduate of McGavock High School and went to UT Nashville, then receiving his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Life College in Atlanta. Tony was a member of the Trinity Assembly in Algood. Anyone who knew Tony, understood he was the life of the party, always enjoying life and having a good time no matter the situation. He enjoyed football and Kentucky basketball. Tony was always a sharp dresser, loved being on the lake with his family, and enjoyed classic rock and cooking. Tony may have lived on the lake in Byrdstown, but Livingston was his life. He was very active in the Livingston Rotary Club where he was President in 2010 and helped anyway he could. Tony was the owner-operator of Abston Chiropractic, where he loved his job and the people he treated. Tony leaves his mother, Shirley Perry Neathery of Byrdstown, TN; sons, Anthony Chad Abston of Gatlinburg, TN, and Colton Perry Abston of Byrdstown, TN; brother, James Michael Cunningham & wife of Nashville, TN; sister, Stephanie Cunningham of Nashville, TN; cousins, Marcie Marple of Nashville, TN, Rachel Davis of Nashville, TN, and Brendon Davis of Nashville; uncle, Joe Craft & wife Pauleese of Sparta, TN, Greg Abston & wife Betty of Albany, Edward Abston of Louisville, KY; aunts, Francis Abston and Linda Phiefer & husband Ed of Florida; father, Gary Abston of Albany, KY. Funeral services for Mr. Landon Staggs, age 57 of Allons, will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 11 AM from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Hunter Cove Cemetery located in Allons. Mr. Staggs passed away from this life on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Livingston Regional Hospital. Mr. Staggs was born in Livingston on October 25, 1961 to the late Clarence and Jean Sebers Staggs. Landon was a member of the 1st Assembly of God. Landon never met a stranger, he was a friend to all who knew him. He was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. Survivors: 3 Sisters: Linda Cantrell and her husband Jewell, Shelia Carr and her husband Darroll, Sharon Eldridge and husband Jimmy; 1 Brother: Larry Staggs; A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive. Preceeded in death: By his parents. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 22, 2018 starting at 5 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral services for Lula Mae Haney Young, age 91, of the Dodson Branch Community will be held Friday at 1:00 pm at Dodson Branch Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Young (son), Rev. Ken Haney (nephew) and Rev. Ronnie Dunn (her pastor) officiating. Interment will follow in Dodson Branch Cemetery. Mrs. Young, surrounded by loving family, went HOME to her heavenly Father on Monday, November 19, 2018 from her earthly home on Dodson Branch Road where she had lived since 1958. She was born November 16, 1927 in Cookeville to the late Isaac (“Big Ike”) and Mary Poston Haney. In addition to her parents, Delbert Young, the love of her life and “best man and the most handsome man ever,” preceded his wife in death after they celebrated their 68th anniversary. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Bell and siblings, Fred Haney, Gladys Haney and Garland Haney. Lula is survived by her sons, Ronnie (Wilma) Young of Cookeville and Eddie (Dale) Young of Timmonsville, SC, and daughter, Sandra (Brian) Johns of Madison, MS; son-in-law, Bobby Bell of Cookeville; grandchildren, Ronda (Chuck) Haney, Lora (Jacen) Jared, Miranda Young, Sam Young, Jamie (Leslie) Brewer, Mark (April) Brewer, and Lacie (Daniel) Dillon; great grandchildren, Isaac (Ashley) Haney, Luke Haney, Jordan Allen, Jesse Hooten, Kelli Hooten, and Charleston Dillon; great-great grandchildren, Ezra Haney and Gunnar Ledbetter; siblings, Lester Haney of Brookville, OH, Delma (Charles) Maberry of Cookeville and Veachel Pond of Cookeville. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 am until time of services.

Funeral services for James E. Maddox, age 95, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2018, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM and Saturday, November 24, 2018, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. James E. Maddox passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hazel Garrett Speck Chettle, age 87, of Livingston will be conducted 1 p.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hazel passed from this life on Sunday evening, November 18, 2018 from the Overton County Health & Rehab. She was born in Overton County on September 8, 1931 to the late John & Ethel White Garrett. Hazel worked for the Standing Stone State Park for many years. She enjoyed going out to eat, loved her family. Hazel was a very good woman with an easy going way about her, who loved everybody and everyone. She loved her Lord and Savior. Hazel leaves her daughter, Louise Speck of Livingston; sister, Jewel Richardson Roulhac & husband Bishop Emmanuel Roulhac of South Gate, MI; several neices and nephews. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husbands, A.B. Speck & George Chettle. The family will welcome friends on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral service for John Thomas Humphrey, age 77 of Walling, will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Spring Hill the Baptist Church with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery. John passed away Tuesday Evening, November 20, 2018 at his residence. He was born April 4, 1941 in White County to the late Willie Foster and Lovener Wright Humphrey. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Martha Jeanette Humphrey and a brother: Buford Keith Humphrey. John was a retired factory worker and farmer. He is survived by his 3 sons: John Foster Humphrey, Ricky Thomas Humphrey and Jerry Duane Humphrey; 4 Grandchildren: J.D. Humphrey, Travis Humphrey, Tiffany Ford, and Elie Humphrey; 5 Great-grandchildren: Jackson Humphrey, Jason Ford, Addie Humphrey, Canaan Humphrey, and Cassidy Humphrey; Fiancee: Sue Richardson & her daughter: Terresa Prater; Brothers & Sisters: Katie Lee Young, Sarah Rebecca Smith, Vera Odessa Mabe, Donald William Humphrey, Linton Ross Humphrey, Linda Sue Moores, and Roy Lee Humphrey. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home on Friday from 5pm until 9pm, and he will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10 am until service time.

Graveside services and interment for Nancy Jean Baker, age 66, of Cookeville, will be at 2 p.m. est. Saturday November 24 at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, OH. Nancy passed away Sunday November 18, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born March 12, 1952 in Delaware, OH to the late Bryant and Rachel Morrow White. Nancy was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Shawna) Wilson of Nashville; and George Wilson of Cookeville; two brothers, Jim White of McArthur, OH, and David Lowry of Raleigh Durham, NC; two sisters, Linda (Glenn) Huff, and Carol Sands all of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
