Obituaries For Wednesday, June 30

Rock Devin Lies, 55 of Cookeville, passed away on Tuesday, June 29 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Rock chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Private graveside services and interment for the immediate family of Mrs. Esther Estella Dunn, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, July 1st at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Pastor Gerald Taylor will officiate. Mrs. Dunn passed away on Saturday June 26 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Dunn along with her late husband Jessie “Ed” operated Dunn’s Gulf Service Station on the square in Cookeville from 1963 to 1993. She also helped her sons operate Dunn’s Willow Tree BP Service Station from 1993 to 1999 before retiring. After retiring, she found great joy in volunteering for Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the hospital gift shop where she tirelessly dedicated over 7,000 hours of service. She and her late husband attended Friendship United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dunn enjoyed gardening but especially growing flowers. She loved native wildflowers most of all. She is survived by he children, Nancy Dunn, Tim (Kathy) Dunn, Jeff (Ginger) Dunn, Randy (Pam) Dunn.

Graveside Funeral Services For Betty Gibbs, Age 90, Of Monterey, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Thursday, July 1, 2021, At 11:00 AM At The Welch Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Eddy Way Will Officiate. Mrs. Gibbs Was Born On November 9, 1930, In Monterey, Tennessee, To The Late Leroy And Edna Copeland Hodge. Mrs. Gibbs Passed Away On Monday, June 28, 2021, At Her Home. Mrs. Gibbs Was A Receiving Clerk With Meijer In Dayton, Ohio. She Was A Member Of Monterey First Freewill Baptist Church. She Is Survived By, 2 Daughters, Cathy Gibson Of Monterey, TN, Vicky Rowe Of Dayton, OH; 2 Sons And A Daughter-In-Law, Ronald Moore Of Decherd, TN, Richard And Ginger Moore Of Palmer, TN. Funeral services for Nora Mae Cobble, age 73 of Cookeville, will be held on Thursday, July 1 at 2:00 from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. Danny Allen will be officiating. The burial will follow at the Netherland Cemetery. Mrs. Cobble passed away on June 29 at Cookeville Reginal Medical Center. Survivors include her mother, Sadie D. Vaughn, and son, Jeffery Cobble. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00am until the time of services at 2:00pm.

Ms. Bradford Was Born On December 12, 1963, In Detroit, Michigan, To Wanda Thaxton Scott Of Cookeville, Tennessee, And The Late Bobby Bradford. Ms. Bradford Passed Away On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, At Her Home. Ms. Bradford Was A Homemaker. In Addition To Her Mother, She Is Survived By, 1 Daughter, Yolanda Kidd (Bernard Roemmele) Of Wind Gap, PA; 2 Grandchildren, Sahia Roemmele And “Buddy” Roemmele; 1 Brother, Gary And Kim Bradford Of Cookeville, TN; 2 Sisters, Sharon Kay Bennett Of Cookeville, TN, Crystal Cumby Of Cookeville. Funeral services for Harold Douglas Holladay, 93 of Cookeville, will be Thursday, July 1 at 3 PM at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Mark Caruth will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Holladay died Sunday Morning, June 27 at his daughter’s home in Lebanon. He was a graduate of Central High School in Cookeville. Harold served in the the Navy as a Third Class Electrician aboard several destroyer ships. He retired as a supervisor with GTE of Cookeville with 35 years of service. Harold was an avid photographer, loved nature, he traveled to all 50 states and was a member of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge. Survivors include daughter, Sherrie (Paul) VanHook of Lebanon. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Visitation for Mrs. Juanita Dorris Sherrer, age 81 of Sparta, will be Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 3-6:00pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. There will be no formal service to follow. She passed away Friday, June 25, 2021 in Rogersville, Alabama. Mrs. Sherrer was born February 6, 1940 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Onie Plummer & Pearl Lee Cooper Dorris. She was a homemaker but held a variety of jobs most notably as a waitress. She enjoyed being around people and never met a stranger. In her later years, she could be found shopping yard sales and goodwill. Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her children Lynita Sherrer, Melisa Sherrer, Curtis Sherrer and Jillian Sherrer.

Funeral services for Harl0n Henry, age 83 of Monterey, will be 6 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Bro. Bobby Floyd will officiate. Interment will follow in the Whittaker Cemetery. Mr. Henry passed away Monday June 28 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation in Monterey. Harlin was retired saw mill operator and logger. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia West of Monterey. His family will receive friends Thursday from 4 -6 p.m.

Jeff Phipps Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Davis Cemetery. Mrs. Norrod Passed Away On Tuesday, June 29 At The Cumberland Medical Center. Mrs. Norrod Was A Homemaker. She Was A 1945 Graduate Of Rickman High School Where She Earned A Teaching Certificate And Taught School In Overton County. She Was A Member Of Three Forks Baptist Church. She Is Survived By Her Children, Linda Phipps, Greg Norrod, and Keith Norrod. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Friday, July 2 From 9:00 AM Until Time Of Services At 11:00 AM.

Funeral Services for John Cameron Simpson, 65 of Sparta will be on Friday, July 2 at 1 PM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Dwight Fuqua officiating, burial to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Simpson passed away Monday, June 28 in Chattanooga. Mr. Simpson was born January 12, 1956, in Sparta to the late David L. “Rex” and Cora D. Simpson. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 1 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home from 4 PM – 8 PM and Friday, July 2 from 8 AM till 1 PM.

Visitation for family and friends of Robert Carl Randolph, age 62 of Pleasant Hill, will be at Hunter Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 2 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mr. Randolph passed away Tuesday, June 29 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was born in Crossville on September 13, 1958 to the late James Marion and Florence Key Thompson Randolph. Robert owned a Welding and Machine Shop. He is survived by his wife, Melinda Fugate Randolph; two daughters, Kayla (Specialist Spencer) Potter, and Sabria Murphy both of Pleasant Hill; and step-children, Kathleen (Daniel) Garrett, SGT. Joseph (Stephanie) Prater, Alston Prater, and Dexter Lull. Robert wishes are for lieu of flowers, Monetary donations to be made to the White County High School ROTC Program of which he was a proud supporter. No Funeral Service is planned.

A celebration of life service for Raymond Howard Bowman, age 83 of Cookeville, will be held at 7pm Friday, July 2 at Crestlawn Funeral Home. Mr. Bowman passed away Saturday, June 19th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Bowman retired as a meter reader in 1999 from the City of Cookeville Utility Department and spent his later years hunting, fishing, and working on his farm. He was known for his love of nature and animals. Over the years, he took in many stray animals and gave them homes. He was also known for his sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. His gentle nature endeared him to almost everyone that met him. Survivors include his son, Michael Bowman; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Bowman. Instead of flowers, please consider contributing to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Visitation begins at 5pm Friday at the funeral home until the time of services at 7pm.

Funeral services for Jeffery Lynn “Fly” Hensley, 53 of Baxter, will be Monday, July 5 at 1 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cooke Cemetery. Jeff died Thursday, June 24, 2021 at St. Thomas Highlands hospital in Sparta. He was born October 12, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Fred Stanley and Wanda Sue Maxwell Hensley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents: Alfred “Junior” and Ellawee Phillips Maxwell, Fred P. and Eloris Mayberry Hensley. Jeff, or “Fly”, as he is affectionately known and called by his friends and loved ones, was a 1985 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter, TN., where he lived the majority of his life. He was avid in sports throughout his life even as a young child, focusing on baseball as his favorite sport of choice. He excelled in baseball throughout his high school career, and was offered a draft to the major leagues with the Kansas City Royals after graduating from high school, but declined the offer. Jeff spent many of his adult years working as a line lead at the Russell Stovers Candy Factory in Algood, TN for 22 years until the factory shut down. Survivors include daughter Shania Lynn Hensley Hammock of Cookeville, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Becky Tallent Hensley of Sparta. The family will receive friends Monday after 9 AM at the funeral home until service time. Pastor Tracy Curtis will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral and burial expenses.

Funeral services for Alton Dale Chaffin, 81 of Monterey, will be held at 7pm on Monday, July 5th from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Mr. Chaffin died in his sleep early the morning of Thursday, June 24th at his home in Monterey. Dale served several years in the National Guard and worked many years for GTE beginning his career there as an installer/repairman in Cookeville and finishing his time with the company in Crossville as District Manager. While living in Crossville, Dale was Co-owner of Mountin Minit Markets and was very active in Crossville Jaycees, serving as President from 1971-1974. Dale enjoyed planning and attending family reunions, as well as the class of 1957 Cookeville High School reunion that he never missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monterey Food Bank or West Cemetery (South) Fund. Mr. Chaffin is survived by his wife of 30 years, Glenda Barton Chaffin of Monterey; and son, Jason (Martha) Vitatoe of Missouri City, TX. The family of Alton Dale Chaffin will receive friends from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Clyde J. Harold Lee, age 83 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, July 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Clayton Lee will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held Wednesday, July 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Nashville (TN) National Cemetery. Mr. Lee died Sunday June 27, 2021 at NHC of Cookeville. His family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial services for James Harold Smith, 78 of Sparta, will be held on July 10 at 1 PM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Smith passed away Monday, June 21 in Cookeville. Survivors include his daughters, Jammi Wilson (Scotty) of Sparta, Kris Smith (Gary) of Sparta, Tamera Taylor (Toby) of Sparta, and Amy Jo Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to The SkyAnn Wilson Memorial Fund, c/o Oak Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 AM – till the time of the service at the funeral home.
