Obituaries For Wednesday, August 18

James Milton Maynard, 78 of the Boma Community died Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021 at his home. His wishes of cremation and no service are being honored. He was born October 4, 1942 in Putnam County to the late Clarence Clifford and Nuava Anderson Maynard. James Milton attended Baxter Seminary for 3 years and was a member of the first graduating class of Upperman High School in 1960. He was a Army veteran serving from 1968 to 1970. James Milton was a member of New Home Baptist Church and previously served as a deacon. He also served on the Smellage Cemetery Board for many years. He had been a farmer in the Boma Community for many years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years (Married November 8, 1970) Linda Peters Maynard.

Ronald Carter Knipe, 65 of Sparta, passed away on Monday, August 16 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. No services are planned at this time.

Funeral Services For Christopher Lee Walker, Age 51, Of Monterey, Will Be Conducted On Thursday, August 19, 2021, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Looper Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Woodcliff Cemetery. Mr. Walker Was Born On Friday, February 27, 1970, In Cookeville, Tennessee, To Lee Earl Walker Of Monterey, Tennessee, And The Late Goldie Irene Holloway Walker. Mr. Walker Passed Away On Saturday, August 14, 2021, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Walker Was Owner/Operator Of Bark Busters. He Was An Avid Horseman, Loved Nature, And The Outdoors. He Was A Member Of The Sons Of Confederate Veterans. In Addition To His Father, He Is Survived By His Fiancée, Kristie Welch Of Cookeville, TN; Son, Colton Walker Of Monterey. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, From 5:00 PM Until 8:00 PM.

Funeral services for James Arthur Murphy, age 78 of Cookeville, will be held at 11 am Friday, August 20, 2021, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville. Mr. Murphy, known by most as “Uncle Jimmy” passed away August 13, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born July 24, 1943, to William MacAllen and Henryetta Murphy. He is survived by his brother, Michael Murphy and nephews. Despite limitations life gave him, at the height of his life, Uncle Jimmy achieved independence for himself by working many jobs that he enjoyed. Employed at a hotel restaurant, his boss, Chef Micheal, remarked of Jimmy that he was the hardest working employee he’d ever had. One of his favorite pastimes was going to church and making new friends. As a result, Jimmy had friends from Jamestown to Maryville and all throughout the state of Tennessee. The family will receive visitors prior to the service that day beginning at 10:30.

Funeral services for Mr. Zina J. Hedgecough, age 91 of Baxter, will be held Friday, August 20th at 1:00 p.m. in the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Gary Norton will officiate. Mr. Hedgecough died Tuesday evening, August 17 at his residence. His family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Baxter chapel.

Funeral services for Donald Bryant, 80 of the Stone community of Jackson County, will be held on Friday, August 20 at 3 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in Gainesboro. Mr. Bryant passed away on Wednesday, August 18 at his residence. He was born July 22, 1941, in Booneville, Arkansas, to the late George Woods Bryant and Lillie Orene Richardson Bryant. On July 22, 1962, he was married to Anita Bryant, who survives. He was the evangelist at Lakeview Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Anita Bryant; and son, Shelby (Donna) Bryant. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Fund for Lakeview Church of Christ or Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital by contacting the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Friday from 11 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral services for Ms. Patricia Ann Clark Simpson, better known as Pat, age 61 of Sparta, will be conducted 6:00pm Friday, August 20 at Doyle United Methodist Church. John Murphy and Brice Murphy will officiate. A member of the Doyle Methodist Church, she was instrumental in the Children’s Church and was especially active with their help center. The children of the church affectionately knew her as “Candy Lady.” Pat enjoyed swimming, going to yard sales, and playing games on her phone. One thing was for certain – wherever she was, she was the life of the party. Pat was also a published poet and could recite poetry from memory. Above all else, her passion in life was being a good Mammy to her beloved grandchildren. Surviving family members include her two daughters, Joni (Daniel) Trivette, and Star (Justin) Simpson. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until service time Friday at the church.

Funeral services for James Edward Lafever, age 86 of Baxter, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday August 21 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Corey Price, Bro. Richard Stone, and Bro. Clayton Lee will officiate. Interment will follow at Spears Cemetery. Mr. Lafever passed away Tuesday afternoon August 17, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. James was a lifelong farmer. He formerly worked at ACME Boot Co. in Cookeville and Texas Boot Co. in Lebanon. He was a member of Ozion Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillie Tinch Lafever; three sons, Lynn Lafever of Baxter; Rodney (Tina) Lafever of Martinsville, IN, Dennis (Kim) Lafever of Martinsville, IN; and daughter, Belinda Carter of Baxter. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 – 8 p.m and again Saturday from 9 a.m. until service. Social distancing and the use of masks are appreciated.

Funeral Services for Mr. Michael Charles Danner, age 69 of Algood, will be conducted 1 p.m., Saturday, August 21 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Adams will officiate. Burial to follow in the Campground Cemetery. Mr. Danner passed from this life on Friday morning, August 13 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. A master machinist in the tool and die industry, Michael loved his family dearly. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, raising cattle and horses, and outdoor sports. Michael was known for raising and training hunting dogs, and dove shoots. Michael leaves behind his sons, Daniel and Joshua Danner. The family will welcome friends on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until time of services at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Margaret “Maggie” Morgan, 85 of Francisco, Indiana and formerly of Sparta, will be held at 4PM Saturday, August 21 at Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Nash Cemetery. Mrs. Morgan passed away Monday, August 16. She was born July 8, 1936 in Fairmount, IN, the daughter of the late William E. and Clatus (Reese) Biven, and married to John J. Morgan, on May 30, 1953 in Anderson, IN. Maggie lived much of her life in Patoka, IN. In 2000, Maggie and John moved to their retirement home in Sparta, before returning to southern Indiana in 2015. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 68 years, John; and children, John (Donna) Morgan, Marie (Mike) Lynch, Ken (Marilou) Morgan, Norma Jean (David) Harvey, and Ron (Julie) Morgan. Visitation will be from 2 pm until 4 pm Saturday, August 21 at Thurman Funeral Home.

A Celebration Gathering for Mabledean Willoughby, age 74 of Cookeville, will be from 5 -7 p.m. Saturday August 21 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. She passed away Thursday morning August 12, 2021 at her home. Mable was born September 24, 1946 in Baxter, TN to the late Orley D. Maynard and Dorothy Lee Daniel Maynard. She was raised on a farm and all her life she loved gardening, canning, cooking, and country line dancing. She loved to read and passed that love on to her children and grandchildren. Mable managed Artley in the Cookeville Mall, and later was the gift shop manager of the Cookeville Cracker Barrel for 27 years until her retirement. She dearly loved her family and friends, and never met a stranger. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Tran Willoughby Jr., whom she married May 21, 1965; daughter, Tracy Willoughby Clark (Mark); son, Thomas D. Willoughby III, all of Cookeville. Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Hospice, 1080 Neal St., Ste. 300, Cookeville, TN 38501, or to an Alzheimer’s/Dementia organization of your choice.

Graveside Service for Jack Ice Poundstone, age 91 of Cookeville, will be Monday, August 23, 2021, at 10:00 am at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Interment will follow the service. He passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Jack was born Friday, September 20, 1929, in Morgantown, West Virginia, and he was the son of the late Stanley James Poundstone and the late Lena Grace (Robison) Poundstone. Jack was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was an engineer for most of his life, in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Retired to Cookeville, and started AJAX Tax and several rental properties for investment, and lived out the rest of his life in Cookeville. Jack is survived by, Wife, Vera G. Poundstone; 4 Children, James Poundstone, Peggy McCullagh, Patty Poundstone, and Paula Poundstone.
