Obituaries For Tuesday, May 24

Mrs. Eula Calloway, 74 of Knoxville and formerly of Cookeville, died Monday May 23, 2022 at her home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Betty Cooper Marcom, age 92 of Sparta, passed away On Monday, May 23, 2022. Betty was an avid Equestrian who raised many Colts, as well as competed in horseshows with her Tennessee Walking Horses until the age of 80. She also enjoyed traveling with friends. Betty worked at Federal Land Bank, Farm Bureau, CIT and Fleetguard-Cummins until retirement. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Marcom and Lyndon (Bonnie) Marcom. Betty requested that there be no funeral services.

Funeral Services for Cordell Curtis Taylor, 90 of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 1:00 pm from the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Taylor passed from this life on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living. Cordell was born Monday, December 14, 1931, in Lancing, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late Elias Newton Taylor and the late Anna B. (McCormick) Taylor. Cordell was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Pa, and friend. He proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Corrections. He had a wonderful sense of humor. His hobbies included quilting and gardening. Cordell was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed.  Cordell is survived by, Wife of 64 Years, Elise (Sparks) Taylor; Daughter, Darlene (Taylor) and John Buchanan; Son, Ricky and Donna Taylor. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Darryl Camron Stockton, 56 of Sparta, will be conducted 7:00pm Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Northfield Vineyards. Burial will be 10:00am Wednesday at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Frank Derrick will officiate. Mr. Stockton passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, May 21st surrounded by his family. Darryl was an excellent carpenter with a loyal following of customers willing to wait years for him to start their projects. Darryl liked spending time on his farm tending to the cattle and enjoyed the outdoors from the seat of his tractor. He was a family man putting his wife and kids before himself. He never minded when Amber and Joseph called needing help with a project (and they called often)…he actually enjoyed it! He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Angela Parker Stockton; Father, Joe (Cayolyn) Stockton; Daughter, Amber (Addison) Groves; and Son, Joseph (Brittany) Stockton. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00pm Tuesday at Northfield Vineyards.

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Lee Spivey Young, age 66 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. She passed away at 5:37pm Saturday, May 21, 2022 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville. Charlotte, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many was born March 17, 1956 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Clyde Spivey, Sr. and Vivian Tennie Parks Spivey. She worked in the shirt factories most of her life, then at Mallory later known as Emerson until its closure. She completed her working years taking care of others at Life Care Center of Sparta. Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her three children Vivian Renaye Spivey Jones, Tonia Ann Cravens Lake, Dennison Dewayne Young. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until service time Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home. Richard Cox will officiate.

Graveside Services for Mr. Jimmy Howard Rose, age 83 of Barboursville, WV, and formerly of Rickman, will be conducted 12 noon, Thursday, May 26 from the Netherland Cemetery in Cookeville. Bro. Larry McCoy will officiate. The family will welcome friends at the graveside. Mr. Jimmy Howard Rose passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022, in Barboursville, WV. He was a retired Assistant Commissioner from the Department of Corrections in Tennessee and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Howard is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vera Rose and Matthew Rohrbach. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Brenda (Staggs) Stewart, age 73 of Cookeville, will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at The Barn at Bilbrey’s Crossing Event Center 119 Rickman Hwy. Cookeville from 11:00 AM till 2:00 PM. Mrs. Stewart passed away from this life on Wednesday, May 18 at the Bethesda Health Care Center. Brenda leaves behind one son, Jeffrey (Shannon) Auberson of Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Ann Wallace, age 82 of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday May 27 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Bishop Derek Heap will officiate. Mrs. Wallace died Thursday May 19, 2022 at Viviant Healthcare in Murfreesboro. Rebecca was a 5th generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech University in 1990 and worked as a Head Start teacher for more than 25 years. Her hobbies included reading, genealogy and traveling. She was a people-person who never met a stranger. She enjoyed learning about people and their families, but she especially loved her grandchildren and showing pictures of them. She is survived by her daughter, Vinnie (Terry) Hassler of Smyrna. Her family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to service time at the church.

Funeral services for Mr. James Thomas Webb, affectionately known as “Bear Track”, age 92 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Friday, May 27, 2022 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Bear Track passed away Friday, May 20, at Tri Star Northcrest in Springfield. He was a retired shirt factory worker. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. Bear Track was remembered as a standout high school football player and he loved to take long walks twice a day. Survivors include his step-daughter, Dorthy Cullom. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Friday at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Jean (Jolley) Norrod, age 88 of Monroe, will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Grant Norrod Cemetery. Officiating with the service will be Bro. Chris Coil. She passed from this life on Sunday morning, May 22, 2022 at the Overton Co. Health and Rehab. Mrs. Willie Jean (Jolley) Norrod was born Wednesday, June 14, 1933 as the third child of William Hall and Mary Alice Mullins Jolley in Barnes Ridge, Pickett Co., TN. Jean attended Barnes Ridge School and Livingston Academy. She completed her Masters Degree in Education at Tennessee Technological University. She taught kindergarten, first and second grades at Monroe Elementary and A. H. Roberts Elementary. She loved seeing the bulb light up! An avid reader, especially of local history, she loved volunteering at the historical Society and discussing what she had learned. Quilting, crocheting, and tatting were hobbies she enjoyed and she attended the quilting parties at the Monroe Community Center. Her garden was a source for many a good meal for her family, covered dishes for many get-togethers, or a family in need. She had a quick wit, a sharper tongue, an infectious laugh, and rejoiced in an impromptu music session with family and friends singing favorite songs with an old guitar or upright piano as accompaniment. Survivors include Husband of 70 years: James Donald Norrod; 1 Daughter: Sheila White; 3 Sons: David Norrod, Bryan Norrod, Rick Norrod and his wife Gail. The family request that in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Friends of the libraries children’s program or the Overton County Historical Society. Family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 27th starting at 5 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral services for Edward Ray Phifer, 86 of Sparta, will be held at Hunter Funeral Home, Sparta at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 28 with Bro. Dan Horton and Bro. Bryan Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Young Cemetery. Mr. Phifer passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022. Edward was a member of Sparta First Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Fleetguard after working for 26 years. Edward enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He is survived by his children, Chris (Lauren) Phifer, Kim (Tim) Sanders, and Candy (Jerry) Fowler. The family would like to express their thanks to the Life Care Memory Unit of Sparta for the special care given to Edward. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Debbie T. Chapkovich, age 60 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, May 28, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Cornerstone Church in Cookeville. Mrs. Chapkovich passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Friday, February 16, 1962, in Monterey, the daughter of the late William Garrett and the late Minnie Phillips Garrett. Debbie enjoyed fishing and liked being outdoors, whether it was walking, observing nature or having a picnic. Debbie was very quiet person, unless she was watching her son, Jeremy, playing football. She loved her grandchildren and being with them. She enjoyed being at church and with her church family. Most of all she loved Lord. Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Stephen Chapkovich; two sons, Lynn (Ashley) Garrett of Dunlap and Jeremy (Doris) Judd of Cookeville.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. William “Willie” Hill Johnson, age 68 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, May 29, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Tuesday, August 4, 1953, in Cookeville, the son of the late Herschel Buford Johnson and the late Mattie Mae (Myers) Johnson. William was a loving son, brother, father, Pa Willie, uncle, and friend. He loved all sports, playing cards, figuring out sports statistics, being an animal lover, gardening, western books, and movies. He was a wonderful athlete, created a men’s basketball league, and played baseball. Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Johnson (Tony York). Visitation will be held, Sunday, May 29, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter.
