Obituaries For Tuesday, May 19

Willie “Robert” Sparks,77, of Sparta, passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center in Monterey. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Mr. Shirlie Edward Roberson, age 89 of Cookeville will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Scott McKinley officiating. Due to Covid-19 precautions, limited seating and social distance measures will be observed. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Crest Lawn Cemetery. He passed away Sunday afternoon May 17, 2020 at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. Shirlie was born November 13, 1930 in Putnam County to the late B. D. Roberson and Anna Gragg Roberson. He was a member and former deacon at Cookeville First Baptist Church. He was a retired home builder and he formerly served with the TN National Guard. Shirlie enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Reba McKinley Roberson, who he married December 22, 1951 in Cookeville; daughter, Diane (Rick) Barker of Cookeville; grandchildren, Audra (Jacob) Law of Lafayette, TN and Terry (Courtney) Barker of Cookeville. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Jewel E. Vanwinkle, age 96 of Algood, will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 beginning at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Thirman Bulluck officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. She passed from this life Sunday, May 17, 2020, at her home in Algood. She was born Tuesday, March 18, 1924 in Algood, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Hall) Webb. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother. She worked several years for the Putnam County School System. She was an active church member, singer, musician and loved quilting, art, gardening, and grew the largest potatoes in Putnam County called super spuds. Jewel is survived by: 1 Daughter and Son-in-law Nancy and Christopher Knowlton of Algood; 2 Sons and Daughters-in-law Charles Randall and Nancy Whiteaker of Cookeville, TN, Ray and Vicki Whiteaker of Spring Hill, TN; 9 Grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm.

Graveside services for Cleamon “Slim” Asher Bradford, age 80, of Cookeville, Tennessee will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 2:30pm at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at Whitson Funeral Home. He passed away on May 15, 2020 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Cleamon “Slim” Asher Bradford was born on October 17, 1939 in Putnam County, Tennessee to the late Clifford Lew and Della (Dunn) Bradford. He worked for Norwalk, and in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Glenn and C.D. Bradford. He is survived by 2 Sisters & Brother-In-Law: Ann and George Ramsey-Rickman, TN, Patty Wells-Cookeville, TN; Daughter: Kimberly Bradford-Sparta, TN; 1 Grandchild: Jamal Alhalawani-Sparta, TN.

Graveside service and interment for JoAnn McGuire, 80 of Red Boiling Springs, formerly of Cookeville, will be Thursday, May 21 at 11:30 AM at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in the Boma Community of Putnam County, TN. with Rev. Wendell Hyde officiating. Mrs. McGuire died Saturday, May 16, 2020 at her home in Red Boiling Springs. She was born January 31, 1940 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to the late Clinton and Anna Mae Self Chastain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed McGuire, a son James Edward “Eddie” Moore, sister Shirley Ruth Chastain, brothers: James and Danny Chastain. She attended Knoxville West High School. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing, country music and dancing. She was a loving and caring woman. She enjoyed her time with her pet dog, Rowdy. Survivors include daughters Theresa (Danny) Tincher, Tina (Tim) Stafford all of Red Boiling Springs, son Tim (Teddi) Moore of Scottsville, KY, grandchildren: Jeremiah Johnson, Brandon and Logan Moore, great granddaughter Layla Mae Johnson. Friends are invited to come by the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home to sign the guest book and pay their respects on Thursday May 21 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Funeral services for Velma Leigh Brown, age 85 of Cookeville, will be held Friday at 1pm at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home passed away Sunday morning May 17, 2020 at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. Friends are invited to come by to sign the guest book and pay their respects on Friday May 22 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Melinda Bilbrey officiating. Due to Covid-19 precautions, limited seating and social distance measures will be observed.
