Obituaries For Tuesday, July 28

Flora Juanita Young, age 93 of Baxter, passed away Tuesday July 28 at her home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Graveside services for Samuel Owen Matheny, age 83 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2020 beginning at 2:00 pm at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery Mausoleums with Bro. Mark Gaw officiating. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery mausoleums. He passed from this life Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. He was born Sunday, August 23, 1936 in Monterey, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Winfred Matheny and the late Littie (Adkins) Matheny Dunbar. Sam was a craftsman, and enjoyed woodworking, stained glass designing, and before his illness he was an avid landscaper and took a lot of pride in his yard. The family will receive friends at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 29, from 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:00 pm.

Funeral Services for Charles Danny Arkon Sr., age 75 of of Sparta, will be held on Thursday, July 30 at 2 p.m. at Bear Cove Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Dodson officiating, burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and retired Master Chief Machinist Mate after 24 1/2 years. He served two tours in Vietnam and in the Persian Gulf War. Being head of the engine room, he took his last ship assignment, the USS King, from being known as “King of the pier” to being “King of the fleet”. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Arkon; his son, Chuck Arkon; his daughter, Bobbie Herriott and many grand children. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Bear Cove Baptist Church from Noon till the time of service.

Funeral Service for James “Al” Middlebrook, age 92 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, July 30 at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Ronnie Pierce officiating. Mr. Middlebrook passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 26 after spending his last days and moments doing exactly what he loved, spending time with his family. Al was the loving father of, and is survived by, his children: Larry Middlebrook, Robin (Michael) Bostic, Steve (Cindy) Middlebrook, Missy Smith, and Ron Middlebrook. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, July 29 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again, Thursday, July 30 from 1:00 pm until time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life for Gerald Robert Fabyunkey, 67 of Doyle, will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Mr. Fabyunkey’s Residence: 283 Mountain Street Doyle, TN 38559. He passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at his home. He was born Sunday, November 23, 1952 in San Diego, California , he was the son of the late Vernon and Ann Vergoglino Fabyunkey. He was a Vietnam Veteran who was honorable dishcharged from the United States Army. Survivors include Wife- Sue Fabyunkey and Son- Dunu Fabyunkey.

Funeral Services for Dean Edward Mayberry, 77 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, August 1st at 1:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. There will be graveside service at a later date. Mr. Mayberry passed from this life on Monday, July 27 at home in Cookeville surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Mayberry; his daughter, Menica Turner and his son, Stephen Mayberry. Dean and Judy owned Dean’s Best Way in Cookeville for many years. Then he ventured into real estate and remained until his stroke in 2014. He enjoyed selling farms in the real estate business, the flower garden and worshiping at the Smyrna Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon until his failing health. Most of all he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 am to time of Memorial Service, they request all visitors please wear a mask.

Funeral services for Judith “Judy” Ann Augustson, 80 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, August 1 at 7 PM at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Bro. Larry Pedigo will officiate. Mrs. Augustson died Saturday, July 24, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Judy was a retired Electronic Technician with Laser Alignment, INC. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed cross stitch, stained glass, working in her flowers and garden and her cat, Miss T. She taught line dancing at the Algood Senior Citizens. Survivors include son, Erik Augustson of Algood; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa (Mike) Thurlow of Cookeville and Kristen (Rick) Kelly of Granville, Michigan. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 PM until service time. Due COVID-19 social distancing will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Feed America First, 1715 S. Rutherford Blvd., Suite K #257, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
