Obituaries For Tuesday, August 24

William Greg Gaw, 56 of Cookeville, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Born Tuesday, June 29, 1965 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Billy Gaw and the late Vallie Sadler Gaw. Greg was a loving husband and friend to all that knew him. Greg is survived by Wife Susan Bryant Gaw; Brother David Gaw; Step Daughter Jennifer (Chris) Madrazo. There are no services planed at this time.

Mrs. Alberta Marie Prince Chapman, affectionately known as Marie, age 92 of Sparta, formerly of Pulaski, Tennessee passed away at 2:55am Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Chapman was born December 13, 1928 in Christian County, Kentucky to the late Robert & Eunie Knight Prince. She worked as a seamstress, retiring from a garment factor, but loved sewing and quilting in her spare time. She earned extra money through her love of sewing and craft projects. If she wasn’t busy sewing, she could often be found fishing. Surviving family members include her daughter Kay (David) Glover; Two sons: Johnny “Doug” (Kay) McIntosh and Robert Earl Chapman. Mrs. Chapman will be cremated and no public services are planned.

Bobby John A. Young, 88 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at his home. He was born Saturday, January 22, 1933 in Sparta, Tennessee. He was the son of the late John Cornelias Young and Nancy Mae Knowles. He worked as a Heating and Air technician for 40 years. Bob served 6 years in the Army and Reserves, 1951-1957, then headed North to Akron, OH where he met his wife, Lois V. Good (Dody)(deceased). Work then relocated them to MI, where they spent majority of their adult lives. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on November 25, 2021 at Hensley Chapel with Dewey Young officiating.

Funeral Services for Mr. Haskell E. Cox, age 81, of the Turkey Town Community will be conducted Wednesday, August 25th, at 1 PM from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston. Bro. James Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Turkey Town Cemetery. Haskell passed from this life on Friday afternoon from his residence. He was born January 28, 1940 in Clay County, Tennessee to the late Mounce and Ida Boles Cox. Pentecostal in Faith, Haskell enjoyed hunting, playing his guitar, singing in church, and cattle farming. His greatest enjoyment was his family and spending time with them. Haskell leaves behind his son, Russell Cox of Hilham, TN; daughters, Wanda Astrero and husband Oscar of Hawaii, and Nadean Reeder and husband Bobby of Livingston, TN; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will welcome friends on Wednesday at 11 AM until time of services at 1 PM.

Funeral services for Sherrie Gaylene (Gentry) Walker, age 74 of Huntingdon, Tennessee, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021, beginning at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Chad Utley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. She passed from this life, Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the home of her Daughter in Woodlawn, Tennessee. Born Thursday, July 10, 1947, in Cookeville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Willie Mae (Ford) Gentry. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother. Sister, and friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Huntington First Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her Grandkids and Great Grandkids. She enjoyed quilting, making cornbread and peach cobbler for her family, reading her Bible, watching westerns and listening to country music. Sherrie is survived by Her Daughters and Sons-in-law Tammie and Chad Utley of Huntington, TN; Christa and Mike Renner of Woodlawn, TN. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.

Funeral services for Margaret B. Cavender, 94 of Cookeville, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25 at the Northeast Church of Christ in Cookeville. Bro. David Hill and Larry Clark will officiate. Mrs. Cavender passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 21. Margaret, affectionately known as Nana by all who knew and loved her, was born to Mack and Ruth Farris on September 10, 1926 in Hampshire, TN just west of Columbia. Margaret met Troyce Cavender, a returning veteran of WWII, and they married in April of 1947. They made a good life together, raising and providing for three children. They lived in several places in Tennessee before settling in Cookeville in 1978 where she was a faithful wife, mother and homemaker. Special thanks to Dr. Chet Gentry and the staff of Upper Cumberland Hospice. She is survived by her children, Ernie (Beverly) Cavender, Rhonda (Larry) Clark, and Tim (Margie) Cavender. Receiving of friends will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Northeast Church of Christ.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Gage Jenks, 22 of Crossville, will be held Friday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mr. Jenks passed away Saturday August 21. His family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life for TJ Arnold, age 49 of Cookeville, will be from 12 – 3 p.m. Saturday August 28 at Duck Pond Manor. TJ passed away Sunday August 15 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

A Memorial Service for Danny Marvin Denning, 68 of Sparta, will be held on Sunday, August 29 at 4 PM at The Christian Life First Assembly of God in Sparta with Brent Tevebaugh officiating. Mr. Denning passed away on Monday, August 23 in Cookeville. He was a member of The Christian Life First Assembly of God in Sparta. He helped people learn how to study the Bible and pray, he had a true servant’s heart. Danny loved helping people. He was always taking food to people and making sure that they had everything they needed. He loved to cook, his friends are going to miss his banana bread and his famous pound cake. He loved his dog, Lucy. Mr. Denning was survived by several family members, many friends and neighbors, and his church family.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Millard Mayhew (affectionally know as Buster) Brown, Jr., 79 of Livingston, will be conducted September 7 from the Donelson Church of the Nazarene, in Nashville from 4 until 5 p.m. Mr. Brown passed from this life on Friday evening, August 20 in Hermitage. A graduate of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, he was active in the National Guard and was fortunate to be able to work in a profession he loved for his entire working years. Buster retired from Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and USDA Animal Control. He was honored to be chosen to go after 9/11 to New York/New Jersey to assist in animal control of the remains of the devastation of the World Trade Center. He took great pride in his professions. Buster grew up in the United Methodist Church in Livingston, TN. He also assisted in the building/development of Historic Collinsville in Southside, TN, a living history Museum which opened to the public in 1997 with 16 restored log structures interpreting history from the 1800s, which his sister and brother-in-law restored and opened to the public. Buster leaves behind his daughter, Amy Lynn Brown Clark.
