Mr. Melvin Eugene Abston, age 84 of Sparta, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at the St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. Joe Gwen Coffelt, age 90 of Cookeville, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Cookeville. Mr. Coffelt’s wishes were to be cremated with no funeral services. He was born February 11, 1931, in Cookeville. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953. Joe was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Lodge No. 266 of Cookeville. He also was a member of the Al Menah Shriners of Nashville. Joe was a firefighter and was a captain at the Pines Hills Fire Department in Orlando, FL. Joe retired as Chief of Police in Portland, TN, in 1993, and moved back to Cookeville. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Coffelt of Cookeville. He was preceded in death by his father, Buster Coffelt; and his mother, Edna B. Hawkins.

Memorial services for Mr. Waymon Andrew Allen, age 39 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., at Doyle United Methodist Church. Mr. Allen passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, in Nashville. He was born to Steve Allen and Penny Allen on February 14, 1982, in Cookeville. Along with his parents, he is survived by his son, Connor Allen (Courtney Carr). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to DonateLife.Net.

Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita B. Rich, age 79 of Byrdstown, will be held Saturday, October 9, at 11 a.m., from the Byrdstown First Baptist Church. Mrs. Rich passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at her residence. She was born Sunday, February 15, 1942, to the late Johnny and Martha (Neal) Booher. She met and fell in love with Morris Rich at the young age of 14. They married when she was 16 years old, and had 58 wonderful years together. With an entrepreneurial spirit, they successfully ran M & J Grocery, Juanita’s Hair Salon, Country Classic Home Furnishings, and their family farm on Clark Mountain. During her younger years, she enjoyed being a hairdresser. She loved her clients and their families like her own. Juanita never met a stranger, and was often found sitting at the Dixie talking to friends and visitors with a smile on her face. Survivors include two children, Nathan Wayne Rich and his wife, Tina, and Johnnye Alisa Davidson and her husband, Bobby. The family will welcome friends at Byrdstown First Baptist Church, Friday, October 8, until 9 p.m., then on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m.

Graveside services for Mr. Willie “Phines” Holloway, age 66 of Monterey, will be held Saturday, October 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bohannon Cemetery. Mr. Holloway passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at his home. He was born Sunday, March 20, 1955, in Monterey, the son of the late Willie Bethel Holloway and the late Syble (Henry) Holloway. Phines was a loving son, brother, father, Pa, and friend. He enjoyed hunting, trading, and playing with his grandkids. Phines was loved by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include two sons, Willie Caleb Holloway, and Jacob and Shawn Holloway.

Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Allen Roberts, age 49 of Livingston, will be held Saturday October 9, 2021, at 2 p.m., at Hatcher Hall Christian Church. Burial will be in Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Roberts passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was guided by faith at an early age and diligently served his community and those around him as a long time first responder and volunteer. He worked many years with the Overton County EMS and was currently working with TDOT as an operations technician. He was a member of Hatcher Hall Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Roberts of Livingston; his parents, Bobby and Donna Roberts of Tazewell, and Patricia Seber Roberts of Livingston; two daughters, Ivy Tuck and Skylar Tuck. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 8, until 9 p.m. at Hatcher Hall Christian Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack Olen Helm, age 89 of Silver Point, will be Sunday, October 10 at 1 p.m., at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Leftwich Cemetery. Mr. Helm passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021,  at his home. He was born October 8, 1931, in DeKalb County, to the late Tim Bob and Lassie Huddleston Helm. Jack was a Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon since 1975. He was a carpenter for over 60 years, and also worked at TVA-Hartsville Plant and Ross-Geer. Jack enjoyed fox hunting, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include wife of 58 years, Keeble Burton Helm; a son, Barry Helm, both of Silver Point. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 5 until 8 p.m., and after 10 a.m. Sunday until service time.

Funeral services with military honors for Mr. Kenneth Frank Minnear, age 74 of Cookeville, will be Sunday, October 10, at 1 p.m., at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Browns Mill Cemetery. Mr. Minnear passed away Tuesday October 5, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded be his loving family and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 5 – 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Funeral services for Mr. Russell Stephen Baum, age 71 of Byrdstown, will be held Sunday, October 10, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. In honor of Mr. Baum’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral, and his ashes taken to a special location in New York. Mr. Baum passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at The Medical Center of Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY, from complications of Covid-19. He was born November 6, 1949, in Callicoon, NY, to the late Edward John and Florence Marjorie Simonson Baum. He had a successful career in scrap metal and heavy equipment sales. If he was not working, he enjoyed attending auctions of all types, especially truck auctions. With his successful career, he was also proud of his son Jesse who has had great success in his own business. Survivors include his three children, James and Jesse Baum of Pennsylvania, and Tara Baum of McMinnville. The family will receive friends Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. David Michael Emerick, age 70 of Livingston, will be conducted Sunday, October 10, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston. Military Honors will be provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.  Mr. Emerick passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Troy, OH, on April 4, 1951, to the late Arnold and Margarite Holly Emerick. David always loved building and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and spending time with his family. Survivors include his daughters, Nicci Emerick-Bergseng of Washington and Elsey Emerick of Florida; sons Erik Emerick of Livingston and Zakari Emerick and wife, Amy, of Livingston; and fiancée, Jennie Greenwood of Livingston. In addition to his parents, Mr. Emerick was preceded in death by a son, Mathew Emerick. The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mr. William Carl Roberts Jr., age 60 of Sparta, will be held Sunday, October 10, at 2:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Veteran’s Honor Guard. Mr. Roberts passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, from COVID. He was born February 7, 1961, in Akron, OH, son of the late William Carl and Johnnie Bell Roberts. He proudly served in the United States Army, Marines Corps, and National Guard. Survivors include a son, William Chandler Roberts of McMinnville.

Memorial services for Ms. Helen Elizabeth West, age 68 of Jackson County, will be conducted Sunday, October 10, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Ms. West was born December 12, 1952, in Jackson County, the daughter of Dowell West and Blanche Young West. She was a food service worker. Survivors include two sons, Brian Birdwell (Traci), Brandon Birdwell; two daughters, Tracey Way (Danny), Tonya Kinnaird (Brian). Visitation will be Sunday from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Hill Flatt Cemetery by contacting the business office of the funeral home.

Graveside services for Mrs. Roselene Charlene Myers Darty, age 84 of Southfield, MI, and formerly of Cookeville, will be Sunday, October 10, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery in Livingston. Mrs. Darty passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in the Henry Ford Hospital in Bloomfield, Michigan. She was born Tuesday, September 29, 1936, in Livingston, the daughter of the late Charles Whitson and Mildred Elease Copeland Myers. Charlene received her early education at Longview Elementary in Livingston and graduated from Darwin High School in Cookeville. She retired from Sears & Roebuck Co. in Detroit, and Fleetguard in Cookeville. Survivors include two granddaughters, Dr. Ashley Varner and Amber (Justin) Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Charletta Varner; and her husband, Charles Darty. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 4-7 p.m., and Sunday, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Mark Anthony Sutton, also known as “Dooley,” age 53 of Cookeville, will be held Monday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m., at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the F.A. Norrod Cemetery in the Hanging Limb community of Overton County. Mr. Sutton passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Baxter chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. James Larry King, age 74 of the Pleasant Valley Community, will be conducted Monday, October 11, at 1 p.m., from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the King Cemetery. Mr. King passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from the Hospice of Cumberland County. He was born in Livingston on September 7, 1947, to the late Allardt and Bonnie Cooper King. Larry was a 1967 graduate of Livingston Academy. He served the citizens of Overton County for 36 years as Tax Assessor, and truly enjoyed working, serving and helping people. He truly loved his family and going to yards sales with Joyce. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joyce Conatser King of the Pleasant Valley Community; son, Corey King and wife, Amanda, of the Pleasant Valley Community. The family will welcome friends on Sunday, from 5 until 9 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mr. Billy Jim Little, age 91 of Rickman, will be conducted Tuesday, October 12, at 11:30 a.m., from the Good Hope Cemetery. Mr. Little passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at his home in Rickman. He was born in Overton County to the late Hershel and Clara Belle Maddux Little. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, a 1948 graduate of Livingston Academy, and graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a Bachelor of Science.  Billy served his country in the Navy and the Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, working on computers, riding motorcycles, camping and traveling. Billy also enjoyed working with the Gideons International. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mrs. Roxie Smith Little of Rickman; sons, David Little and wife, Veronica, of Conyers, GA, and John Mark Little and wife, Jean, of Alaska; daughters, Sheila Heeke and husband, Lance, of Young Harris, GA, Phyllis Looper and husband, Doug, of Livingston, and Teresa Richardson and husband, Jamie Boykin, of Livingston. The family will welcome friends at the Graveside at Good Hope Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jo Tollison, age 64 of Jackson County, will be on Tuesday, October 12, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Tollison passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born February 2, 1957, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Hubert Hamlet and Fannie Earlene Davidson Hamlet. She was a factory worker. Survivors include two sons, Bill Edmond Kinnard of Smyrna and Daniel Hubert Kinnard of Leitchfield, KY. Visitation will be held Monday, October 11, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and again on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home.

A visitation for the family and friends of Mr. Gordon Gene Stephens, age 74 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, October 16, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville. There will be an Honor Guard presentation at 1 p.m. Mr. Stephens passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021, surrounded by his family. Gordon proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He proudly rode with and was a member of the Mechanized Calvary, First Battalion, Company “A”. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife, Brenda, and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Stephens; and daughter, April Wiseman. Following the visitation, Gordon will be taking his last ride to Big Puckett’s Campground where they will be celebrating his life. A pot luck meal will be served. Please bring a dish to share.
