Mrs. Georgia Ann (Jones) Copeland, age 77 of Byrdstown, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family has chosen cremation, with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Mrs. Copeland was born May 31, 1945, in Byrdstown, the daughter of the late Edla and Lydia (Voiles) Jones. She was a member of the Wolf River United Baptist Church, a restaurant waitress and homemaker. Survivors include her companion, Bruce Kozloski.
Funeral services for Mr. Jose Dolores Valdez, age 78 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, October 1, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville. Burial will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Valdez passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022. He was born Monday, August 21, 1944, the son of the late Esteban Valdez and Rosa Corona. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Maria Isabel Loera; three daughters, Cecilia (Ramiro Martinez) Valdez and Griselda (Jose Guadalupe Martinez) Valdez, both of Cookeville, and Margarita (Mario Camarillo) Valdez of Tyrone, GA. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Mark Ray Poston, age 65 of Rickman, will be held Saturday, October 1, at 2:00 p.m, at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Poston passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022. He was born Sunday, February 24, 1957, in Livingston, the son of the late Carl and Raymonda Poston. Mark faced his illness with courage and unwavering faith. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him; he will be surely missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Gail Poston.
Graveside services for Mr. Frankie R. Rich, age 70 of Livingston, will be held Saturday, October 1, at 2:00 p.m., at Bethlehem Cemetery. Mr. Rich passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Skyline Medical Center. He was born August, 22, 1952, in Moss,the son of the late Ernest and Avie Lovie Rich. Survivors include a son, Chris (Tonya) Rich of Cookeville; a daughter, Melanie (Fernando) Macias of Fresno, CA.
Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Butler, age 91 of the Gladdice community of Jackson County, will be held Sunday, October 2, at 2:00 p.m., at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gene Butler Cemetery. Mrs. Butler passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at her residence. She was born February 7, 1931, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Odell and Lola B. Hunter Spivey. She was a housewife and a member of the Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Denise (Roy) Brown and Renae (Danny) Richardson, both of Gainesboro. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Funeral services for Ms. Susan Leigh Stewart, age 49 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gentry Cemetery. Ms. Stewart passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was born April 13, 1973, in Putnam County, the daughter of the late Arvel and Mattie Pearl (Franklin) Stewart. Survivors include a daughter, Chelsey Stewart. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Funeral services for Ms. Stevie Michelle Plumlee, age 35 of Rickman, will be held Sunday, October 2, at 3:00 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Ms. Plumlee passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her residence. She was born October 6, 1986, in Overton County, the daughter of Kathleen Looper Bilbrey of Rickman and the late Steven Plumlee. Stevie was a 2005 graduate of Livingston Academy and a 2009 graduate of Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Fisheries Science. In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, Michael (Terri) Julian of Monterey; a sister, Nicole Jones of Monroe. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home.
Memorial services for Mrs. Jacqueline Juanita (Gaw) “Jacki” Cross, age 57 of Pall Mall, will be held Monday, October 3, at 7:00 p.m., at Brown Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Cross passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022. She was born March 6, 1965 in Glendale, CA, the daughter of the late Jack and Irene (Johnson) Gaw. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Rhea Cross; two sons, Matthew Ryan Cross and Nicholas Van Cross.
Funeral services for Ms. Darlene Rhonda Buckheister, age 70 of Sparta, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. A private burial will follow. Ms. Buckheister passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, at her home. She was born July 23, 1952, in Pensacola, FL, the daughter of the late Carol Munden. Survivors include three daughters, Angel (Tony) Caleau and Amanda Beckham, both of Sparta, and Leslie Davis (William) of Spring Hill, FL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Funeral services for Mr. Marshall Hall “Bill” Underwood, Jr., age 91 of Sparta, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Doyle Cemetery. Mr. Underwood passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at Hospice of Chattanooga. He was born October 3, 1930, in Wilder, the son of the late Marshall Hall and Vernia Mae Robinson Underwood. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major for the United States Army after 25 years of service. Survivors include a son, James Underwood; two daughters, Debra Howard and Marsha (Ken) Mechtley. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00.
A memorial service for Mr. Shirley Vestil Smithers, age 75 of Byrdstown, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m., at Brown Funeral Chapel. Mr. Smithers passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1947, in Byrdstown, the son of Charles Smithers and the late Oma (Latham) Asberry. He was a convenience store owner and a farmer. In addition to his father, survivors include four daughters, Stefanie Smithers, Amanda Ringley, Lori Harrison and Teina Taylor Thrasher; a son, Jamie Smithers. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
