Mrs. Joyce Ann Ford, age 75 of Gainesboro, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Mabry Health Care and Rehab in Gainesboro. The family has chosen cremation, with no services scheduled at this time. She was born November 30, 1946, in Murfreesboro, the daughter of the late James Edward Nickens and Vera Pearl Nickens. She worked as a nurse’s aide. Survivors include a son, John Blackburn of Gainesboro.

Mr. Lawrence Frederick Morris, age 90 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Mabry Health Care in Gainesboro. No services are scheduled at this time. He was born September 25, 1932, in Glen Cove, NY, the son of the late Leon and Beatrice (nee Plumb) Morris. Larry served in the United States Navy. He was the former owner and operator of the L&M Package Store in Allons until 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Connie (David) Frazier of Cookeville and Tanya (Chris) Syvertsen of Guilford, CT.

Mrs. Maxine Ramsey, age 83 of Livingston, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at her residence. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Ramsey was born September 24, 1939, in Overton County, the daughter of the late Truman and Lola Coffman Hawkins. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Dodson of Cookeville, Brenda Massengille of Livingston, and Thelma Sullivan of Rickman; one brother, Bobby (Geneva) Hawkins of Geneva of Livingston.

Mrs. Margaret “Peg” Louise (Wilkins) Sloat, age 94 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Sloat chose cremation, and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Sloat was born Thursday, June 21, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Russell Earl and Bea (Lakin) Wilkins. Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Emerson Sloat; eight children, Rick (Susan) Hurst, Steve (Ann) Hurst, Chris (Cindi) Hurst, Kathi Hurst, Jeff Hurst, Laura Hurst, Rick (Stacey) Sloat and Glen (Robin) Sloat.

Funeral services for Ms. Donna Goodman, age 71 of Baxter, will be held Friday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m., at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dobbs Cemetery in Baxter. Ms. Goldman passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 21, 1951, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late William Dewey and Anna Mae Brown Shepherd. She was a housewife. Visitation will be held Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elise Taylor, age 88 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sands Springs Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Taylor passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville. She was born Thursday, December 28, 1933, the daughter of the late Alex and Goolie Mae (McCloud) Sparks. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene (John) Buchanan of Oliver Springs; a son, Ricky (Donna) Taylor of Cookeville. Visitation will be held Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

A memorial service for Mrs. Barbara Irene (Keeney) Slape, age 79 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, September 30, at 12:00 p.m., at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Cookeville. Mrs. Slape passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022 in Livingston. She was born born August 24, 1943 in New Boston, OH, the daughter of the late Lester and Marjorie Hardy Keeney. Barbara was a dedicated wife and mother, staying home to raise her daughters. Upon moving to Cookeville, she became an active member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Donald Slape; two daughters, Carolyn (Ed) Garr and Patty (Ron) Lee. Public visitation will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m., at Bear Creek Baptist Church. A family visitation will be held on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter.

Memorial services for Mr. Ronald “Ron” Walker, age 74 of Clarksville and formerly of Silver Point, will be held Friday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m., at the Baxter chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mr. Walker passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at his home in Clarksville. He was born December 5, 1947, in Nashville, the son of the late Walter Thomas and Viola Broyles Walker. He was a graduate of Maplewood High School in Nashville and Tennessee Tech University, with a degree in Accounting. Ron retired as Chief Executive Officer with LifePoint of Nashville and was a member of New Home Baptist Church. Survivors include wife, Betsye Prichard Walker of Clarksville; a daughter Charlotte (Bryan) Duhl of Clarksville; a son, Taylor (Lee) Walker of Signal Mountain. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Funeral services for Mr. Roy Gaines “Doc” West, age 77 of Sparta, will be held Friday, September 30, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. In honor of Doc’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral. Mr. West passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at his residence. He was born September 17, 1945, the of the late James Newton “Jack” and Ida Beatrice Emerton West. He was a former drywall finisher. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Lynn West; two sons, JR (Rashelle) Young of Sparta and Chad (Andrea) West of Shelbyville; six daughters, Tonya (Shannon) Carter and Becky (David) Redmon, both of Panama City Beach, FL, Amanda (Kevin) Stotts of McMinnville, Ruby Tucker and Nita Hugh, both of Shelbyville, and Lana (David) Crutcher of Belfest. Visitation will be held Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Donnie Hassler, age 47 of Monterey, will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Love Joy Cemetery. Mr. Hassler passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his home. He was born Wednesday, January 1, 1975, in Crossville, the son of Clyde Herbert and Artie Jewel McCowan Hassler. Mr. Hassler was a logger. In n addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Kenny Hassler of Crossville; three stepchildren, Shelly (Frank) Phipps and Heather Swafford, both of Crossville, and Cody (Jalina) Swafford of Weaverville, NC. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services Mr. Willie Earl Lee, II, age 66 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Lee passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Monday, September 24, 1956, in Brookhaven, MS, the son of the late Willie Earl and Nettie Lea (Newell) Lee. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sheila Ann (Reeser) Lee; three sons, Willie Earl (Jessica) Lee, III, Barry Franklin Lee (Sarah Warren), and Matthew Sean (Chloe) Lee. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lary Scott Petty, age 90 of Jackson County, will be held Friday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lynn Cemetery. Mrs. Petty passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was born February 11, 1932, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Luke and Della Richardson Scott. Mrs. Petty was a seamstress and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include four sons, Ronnie (Paula) Petty, Roger “Satch” Petty, Jimmy Petty, and Walter Petty. Visitation will be held Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Graveside services for Mr. Alex Lee Vance, age 40 of Doyle, will be held Friday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m., at the Vance Family Cemetery in Van Buren County. Mr. Vance passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at his home. He was born December 14, 1981, in Sparta, the son of Gayle and Wanda Lawson Vance of Doyle. Alex was a 2000 graduate of Van Buren High School, and worked as a skilled welder and machine operator. In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Altia (Daniel) Vance of Petersburg.

Funeral services for Mr. Jose Dolores Valdez, age 78 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, October 1, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville. Burial will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Valdez passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022. He was born Monday, August 21, 1944, the son of the late Esteban Valdez and Rosa Corona. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Maria Isabel Loera; three daughters, Cecilia (Ramiro Martinez) Valdez and Griselda (Jose Guadalupe Martinez) Valdez, both of Cookeville, and Margarita (Mario Camarillo) Valdez of Tyrone, GA. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Mark Ray Poston, age 65 of Rickman, will be held Saturday, October 1, at 2:00 p.m, at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Poston passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022. He was born Sunday, February 24, 1957, in Livingston, the son of the late Carl and Raymonda Poston. Mark faced his illness with courage and unwavering faith. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him; he will be surely missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Gail Poston.

Funeral services for Ms. Stevie Michelle Plumlee, age 35 of Rickman, will be held Sunday, October 2, at 3:00 p.m., at Pleasant Ridge Church. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Ms. Plumlee passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her residence. She was born October 6, 1986, in Overton County, the daughter of Kathleen Looper Bilbrey of Rickman and the late Steven Plumlee. Stevie was a 2005 graduate of Livingston Academy and a 2009 graduate of Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Fisheries Science. In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, Michael (Terri) Julian of Monterey; a sister, Nicole Jones of Monroe. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Marshall Hall “Bill” Underwood, Jr., age 91 of Sparta, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Doyle Cemetery. Mr. Underwood passed away Monday, September 26, 2022, at Hospice of Chattanooga. He was born October 3, 1930, in Wilder, the son of the late Marshall Hall and Vernia Mae Robinson Underwood. He retired as a Command Sergeant Major for the United States Army after 25 years of service. Survivors include a son, James Underwood; two daughters, Debra Howard and Marsha (Ken) Mechtley. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00.

A memorial service for Mr. Shirley Vestil Smithers, age 75 of Byrdstown, will be held Tuesday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m., at Brown Funeral Chapel. Mr. Smithers passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1947, in Byrdstown, the son of Charles Smithers and the late Oma (Latham) Asberry. He was a convenience store owner and a farmer. In addition to his father, survivors include four daughters, Stefanie Smithers, Amanda Ringley, Lori Harrison and Teina Taylor Thrasher; a son, Jamie Smithers. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
