Obituaries For Wednesday, June 22

Ms. Rebecca Sue “Becky” Renner, age 63 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Ms. Renner chose cremation, and no services are scheduled at this time. She was born Saturday, November 22, 1958, the daughter of the late Maurice and Nancy Louise (Marshall) Renner. Becky worked several years in the healthcare business. She was very active, enjoyed life and spending time with her family and pets. Survivors include a daughter, Jessica “Jess” Allen of Odessa, FL; a son, James Allen of Jamestown.

Mr. Jim Lee Perry, age 55 of Sparta, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Mr. Perry was born September 2, 1966, in Chattanooga, the son of Marian Joy Cooley Heatherly of Sparta and the late James Aubrey Perry. He worked as a nurse for twenty years at various nursing homes in the Chattanooga area. His last job was at Orange Grove, where he enjoyed working with the physically and mentally disabled patients. He was also an avid gamer. In addition to his mother, survivors include a son, Brandon Perry of Sparta.

Mrs. Addie Stafford Matthews, age 92 of Livingston, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at the Overton County Health and Rehab Center. Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date. Mrs. Matthews was born April 25, 1930, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Wade and Mae Stafford. Addie loved flowers, tending to her pets, and making arts and crafts.  Most of all, she loved spreading the Word of Jehovah God. Survivors include a son, Richard D. Boles of Florida. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husbands, Milton Boles and Earl Glyn Matthews; two sons, Ronald E. Boles and Randall G. Boles.

Mr. Richard (Dick) Lee Silvers Sr., age 85 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Living Hope Church. Mr. Silvers was born March 18, 1937, in Akron, OH, the son of the late Leopold Silvers and Gertrude Dalrymple. He moved to Naples, FL, in 1980, where he lived until moving to Cookeville in 2006. Mr. Silvers was in the construction business with Dugan’s in Florida for many years, until he retired in 2004. He and his wife attend Living Hope Church. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Melody (Dee Dee) Silvers; a daughter, Lisa (Juan) Silvers of Parkland, FL; a son, Richard Silvers of Johnson City; a daughter, Nicole (Avery) Silvers of Johnson City; two stepdaughters, Angela Dailey and Kelly (Steve) Newberry, both of Parkersburg, WV.

Mr. Marvin J. Hill, Jr., age 77 of Cookeville, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville. Mr. Hill chose cremation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. He was born Monday, December 25, 1944, in Big Springs, TX. Marvin was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Survivors include a daughter, Melinda Sue (Steve) Mercer of Gaithersburg, MD; three sons, Marcus (Tammi) Hill and Marvin Joseph (Layla) Hill, both of Cookeville, and Michael (Beth) Hill of Sparta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Hill.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Gene Hollars, age 79 of Hilham, will be held Thursday, June 23, at 10:00 a.m., in the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Mr. Hollars passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at his residence. He was born May 17, 1943, in Hilham, the son of the late Elmer and Mary Masters Hollars. Gary served as a former county commissioner and was a technical advisor for TCAT. He loved hunting, playing cards and working on anything mechanical. In the past, Gary built a 1934 Ford, built engines for Hydroplane racing boats, and was a master welder and electrician. Survivors include a daughter, Gretchen (Furthur Holiner) Hollars of Hilham; a son, J.J. (Ginny) Hollars of Livingston. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hollars was preceded in death by his wife, Lolita Hollars; an infant daughter, Michal Hollars. Visitation will be held Wednesday until 8:00 p.m.

Graveside services for Mr. Cecil Ray Anderson, age 85 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Highland Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Anderson passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1937, in Sparta, the son of the late Herbert & Lela Arnold Anderson. His work career began at Western Auto in Sparta, and he retired as Vice President of Marketing for United Dairy Farmers in Cincinnati, OH. Cecil was a veteran of the United States Army and he served as a deacon at Eaton Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Stan (Michelle) Anderson of Ohio and David Anderson of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ellen Thompson Anderson. There will be no visitation prior to the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hayes, age 98 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, June 23, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Hayes passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Wednesday, March 19, 1924, in Shannon, MS, the daughter of the late Samuel and Laudie Mae Lauderdale. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church since 1963, and served on the Women’s Missionary Union, the Children’s Sunday School, Church Training, International Wives Ministry and was Nursery Coordinator. Survivors include a daughter, Helen H. Ehrlichman of Slidell, LA; a son, Greg A. (Mary Beth) Hayes of Nashville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry D. Hayes. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rillie Mae Hill, age 81 of Livingston, will be held Thursday, June 23, at 1:00 p.m., at West End Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hill passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at her residence. She was born April 6, 1941, in Overton County, the daughter of the late Radford and Mary Walker Ramsey. Rillie loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to church and was a very Godly woman. Survivors include three sons, Tony (Kim) Hill and Joey (Donna) Hill, both of Livingston, and Mark “Hun” (Renee) Hill of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Hill. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Karon Elane Dotson, age 43 of Livingston, will be held Thursday, June 23, at 3:00 p.m., at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Carter Bilbrey Cemetery. Mrs. Dotson passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at her home. She was born Thursday, August 17, 1978, in Livingston, the daughter of Sandra Scott of Livingston and the late Larry Alford Scott. Karon loved church and her church family. She loved to spend time with her family, read books, and watch soap operas. In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Ray Dotson of Cookeville; three sons, Joseph Alford (Jamie) Scott and Ryu Landoncoy Dotson, both of Livingston, and Devin Francis (Faith) Borges of Cookeville; two daughters, Ally Elizabeth (Cody) Copeland and Helen Elane (Jordan) Rogers, both of Livingston. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alethiajean Breviann Copeland. Visitation will be held Wednesday until 8:00 p.m., at the church.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Donell Allen, age 59 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Allen passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at his home. He was born July 7, 1962, in Cookeville, the son of the late Deloy and Maymie Loftis Allen. Donell owned and operated Allen’s Auto Trim and was well known for creating one of a kind interiors on hundreds of custom show cars. He was also an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting big whitetail deer. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Pam Dexter Allen; two sons, Matt Allen and Michael Allen. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Reba Mae Gentry, age 93 of Baxter, will be held Friday, June 24, at 3:00 p.m., at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Samuel Maxwell Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Bailey Manor in Cookeville. She was born February 17, 1929, in Baxter, the daughter of the late William Arthur and Nora Avo Sliger Austin. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and playing wiffle ball in the front yard with her nephews. Survivors include a niece, Rema Faye Billingsley of Baxter; a nephew, Tommy Young of Baxter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Eugene Gentry; a son, Ronald Lynn Gentry. Visitation will be held Friday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

A service for Mr. Kenneth Wayne Crawford Jr., age 69 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m., at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kirbyville, MO. Mr. Crawford passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022. He was born August 12, 1952, in Maryland, the son of the late Kenneth Wayne Crawford Sr. and Roselind Yvonne (Aldridge) Crawford. Mr. Crawford grew up in Worthington, OH. Survivors include three children, Ashley Brooke Crawford, Kimberly Regan (Kris) Howard, and Kenneth Wayne Crawford III.

A memorial service for Mrs. Linda Josephine Simmons Upchurch, age 72 of Nashville and formerly of White County, will be held Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. A reception will be held at Oldham Theater on the square in Sparta following the service at the cemetery. Mrs. Upchurch passed away January 28, 2021, at her home. She was born May 15, 1948, in Anderson County, the daughter of the late Martha Lena Carter and Willis Simmons. She was a 1966 graduate of White County High School and attended college at Tennessee Technological University. Linda worked as a gifted administrative assistant for many years at the Kennedy Center at Peabody (now Vanderbilt). Her true passion was children; she was a foster parent for several children and, after becoming a mother herself, cared for a total of 15 children over the years in her home. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Richard Leon Upchurch; a son, Thomas Carter (Elizabeth) Upchurch of Memphis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Martha Leah Upchurch. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen McGugin, age 80 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, June 26, at 3:00 p.m., at Algood United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Algood City Cemetery. Mrs. McGugin passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, and Sunday, from 2 p.m. until the time of the service, at the church.

Graveside Celebration of Life services for Mr. Ronald Wayne Welch, age 77 of Monterey, will be held Tuesday, June 28, at 2:00 p.m., at Phillips Cemetery in the Anderson community. Mr. Welch passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1944, in Overton County, the son of the late Hershel E. and Daisy Jane Clark Welch. Mr. Welch was a coal miner and a truck driver. He was a member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge #637, and attended Union B Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Larry Welch of Centerville and Dale Welch of Monterey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Wilson Welch; a son, Ronnie Welch. Visitation will be held at the graveside.
