Obituaries For Monday, July 19

Lisa DeAnne (Heavner) Miller, 56 of Cookeville, passed from this life on Monday, July 19 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Lisa was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, and GaGa. Lisa was a vibrant, loving woman who loved anyone she came in contact with passionately. Lisa chose cremation, the family followed her wishes, and a celebration of her life will be held at later date in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mrs. Marion Ella Bohannon, age 101 of Cookeville, died Saturday July 17, 2021 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Alma Jane Essman Bryant, age 85 of Sparta, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Saylors Cemetery. Sparta Police Chief Doug Goff will officiate the services. She passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 at her residence. She was born May 28, 1936 in Winters, Texas to the late Edward Payne and Ophilia Crider Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her first husband: Omer F. Essman, a step-son: Terry Bryant, step-daughter: Angie Varga along with several brothers and sisters. She was retired from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department in Visalia, California. There, she also worked part-time for the Visalia Police Department. She was voted “Woman of Year” from the American Business Womens Association. She was also a part-time bookkeeper for the Addiction Center for Teens. Mrs. Alma was a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed bowling, dancing, music, traveling and lived a very active life. She is survived by her husband: Randall R. Bryant of Sparta, Son Ray Essman of Sparta, Step-son Randall W. Bryant of San Antonio, Texas, 2 Daughters Freida Martinez of Sparta and Annette Essman of Visalia, California. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 pm until 7pm on Monday evening.

Memorial Services for Barbara Sue Hitchcock Dyer (Ms. Sue), age 81 of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner-Dyer Chapel on Tuesday July 20th. The memorial service will be delivered by Pastor Gary Farris. Internment will be at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Cookeville. was born on June 13, 1940 in Putnam County, Tennessee to Irene Hitchcock Pinion. Ms. Sue was reared in Putnam County by her grandparents Sam and Sue Hitchcock. She is a 1958 graduate of Cookeville Central High School and attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute now Tennessee Technological University. On July 8, 1960 she married her partner in life Marvin Dyer. She and Marvin are the parents of Michael E. Dyer and wife Martha Dyer of Dayton, Tennessee, Rhonda M. Bartlett and husband Steve Bartlett of Cookeville, Tennessee. Sue loved everyone and everyone who was privileged to know her loved her. She was happiest when her house was filled with her children and grandchildren. For many years she also enjoyed weekend camping with Marvin. Sue knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and devoted her life to sharing Him with others. She spent many years of her life as a member of the Stone Seminary Freewill Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher to many small children. Sue spent a lifetime of service to her family and community. Sue served as an office manager for husband Marvin for the past twelve years. Marvin is an ICC Building Codes Inspector for the City of Celina, Clay County, the City of Spring City, Rhea County and the City of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The family wishes to invite everyone for visitation on Monday July 19th from 5-8 pm and Tuesday from 9 – 11 am in the chapel located on Willow Avenue in Cookeville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebel Lee Hammock, age 65 of Livingston, Overton Co., will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 11 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the oak Hill Cemetery located in Rickman. Mrs. Hammock passed away with her family by her side at her residence on Friday, July 16. Rebel was a member of the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church who loved her Lord and Savior very much. She loved her family and helped out where she was needed. Her family will miss her very much. Surviving family includes her daughter, Lori Reagan. Family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 20th starting at 5 PM until 9 PM.

Funeral Services for Mary Frances Southard, 87 of Sparta, will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 1 PM with Steve Gerhart officiating, burial will follow at Southard Cemetery. Mrs. Southard passed away on Sunday, July 18 in McMinnville. Mary loved cooking for her family, spending time in her flower garden, and going to yard sales. Surving family includes her daughters, Shirley Rollins (Bud) of Sparta, and Carolyn Davis (Mike) of Sparta. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 11 AM till the time of service.

Funeral services for Hassie “Marie” Lollar Wallace, age 95 of Sparta, on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery. Officiating will be Bro. Doug Benningfield. She was the daughter of Martha Green Lollar and Luther Harmon Lollar of Cassville, TN. Mrs. Wallace is survived by two children, Edna (Thomas) Craighead of Hendersonville, TN, James (Jamie) Wallace of Gallatin. Family will receive friends on Tuesday 20, 2021, at 4:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home.

Funeral Service for Clarence Ray Grider, age 74 of Baxter, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Morris Hickey Cemetery. He passed from this life on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at his home. Clarence was born Tuesday, March 11, 1947 in Cookeville, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late Herman Grider and the late Nancy (Thomas) Grider. Clarence was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to grow watermelon, he was free spirited, tend to his flower garden, and shoot guns with this grandchildren. Clarence was loved by everyone that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Clarence is survived by, Wife, Linda (Hickey) Grider; Son, Ronnie Wayne Grider. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Luther Brown, age 73 of Livingston, Overton Co., will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 11 AM from the Chapel of t he Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Okolona Cemetery in Livingston, Overton Co. Mr. Brown passed from this life at the Livingston Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 18. Robert served in the United States Army. Robert will be greatly missed by his family. Surving family includes his wife, Diana Brown; and son, Bobby ( Beverly) Brown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 21st starting at 5 PM to 8 PM.

Funeral services for Marcia Ann Compton Fletcher, age 82 of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Friday July 23 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Graveside service and interment will be at 12 noon Saturday at Oak Hill Union Cemetery in Paris, TN. Her family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Graveside services for Betty Sue Johnson Bradley, 92, of Henrico, Virginia, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Cookeville City Cemetery. Born March 10, 1928, in Cookeville, TN, to the late Herschel J. and Nannie Pearl Johnson, the youngest of five children. She graduated Central High School in Cookeville and attended Tennessee Tech. She earned her teaching certificate and taught grade school. She married Clarence Eugene Bradley in Cookeville on November 11, 1949, and they moved to Washington, D.C., then Northern Virginia. She held various clerical and office management positions and eventually returned to teaching, substituting in Henrico County Public Schools. She is survived by two children, Walter Russell Bradley and Patricia Jean Bradley. Her family will receive friends Saturday, July 24th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 AM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Memorial services for James (Jim) Francis Deffley, Jr., 69, of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 1 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. The family has chosen cremation. Mr. Deffley passed away on Tuesday, July 6 at his residence. He was born January 15, 1952, in Woonsocket, RI, to the late James Francis Deffley, Sr. and Mary Catherine Dolan Deffley. On August 26, 1979, he was married to Carol J. Deffley, who survives. He worked as a purchasing manager. Survivor include his wife, Carol J. Deffley of Cookeville; and daughters, Christina (Edward) A. Laquerre, and Jami (Edward) Barnsley. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross by contacting the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 24 from 11 A.M. until time of services.
