Warren Granted CDBG Money To Boost Fire Protection

Warren County wants to purchase a fire truck with a Community Development Block Grant awarded Monday.

The State Department of Economic and Community Development announced 62 recipients. County Executive Jimmy Haley said the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department will benefit.

“It’s always good when communities can leverage extra resources and partner with other organizations and agencies to get additional money,” Haley said. “They’ll always be put to good use.”

Warren County will receive some $370,000. Haley said the county worked with UCDD on the successful grant application. Haley said a timeline of purchase will be known once spending guidelines are shared from the state.

“We were partnering with the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department to apply for this CDBG for additional equipment to help them since they are a large service area,” Haley said. “I want to give a shout out to Ramie Roberts who is the fire chief. He has done an exceptional job.”

Putnam County one of the other governments earning a grant. Some $318,000 to purchase a new fire apparatus. Overton County wants to purchase a mini pump truck with the $420,000 it received.
