Virtual Celebration For Tech Graduates Saturday

Tennessee Tech will host a virtual celebration program for graduating students Saturday.

The virtual program will begin at 10 a.m. and will include speeches from Phil Oldham, Ricky Shelton, and Randy Porter.

News Director Buddy Pearson said it is certainly not a commencement replacement, but it will be an uplifting experience for graduates.

“We have put together something special,” Pearson said. “There’s videos from the graduates, there’s a thank you cam, and we have some very cool thank you’s from people in our community, from the governor, and even a special guest that I think will be very popular with the students.”

Graduating students and their families can watch the 40 minute live video on the Tennessee Tech website. Pearson said the video prepared is an emotional experience.

“I know some people who have previewed it have been moved to tears,” Pearson said. “It’s been a rough semester for everybody, it’s just been not what everybody has expected. For the seniors, we just want them to know how much we appreciate them, how much courage was taken to get through the semester, and they really exemplified the golden eagle’s confidence of Tennessee Tech students.”

The original commencement date for May 9 was postponed due to pandemic concerns. Pearson said he hopes a new date will be announced soon.
