USPS Christmas Shipping Deadlines Coming This Week

Do not forget about your wrapped presents ready for delivery as this week holds the first Postal Service shipping deadline for Christmas.

Tennessee USPS Spokesperson Susan Wright said Friday marks the beginning of three different due dates to make sure your gift is under the tree.

“The deadlines this week are December 18th for first class mail,” Wright said. “Which, of course includes your holiday greeting cards and also small packages. December 19th is the deadline for priority mail packages.”

Wright said the last day for express mail is December 23rd. For an extra charge, you can also request for delivery on Christmas Day. Wright said package volumes have increased since early spring, but this week will be the busiest of them all.

“We are continuing that trend,” Wright said. “In addition to this holiday season, customers are getting more comfortable with purchasing items online. So, we are certainly seeing those increases, and our package volume is tremendous right now.”

In order to help, Wright said people are encouraged to mail presents as early as possible. Wright said with an expected up tick in new customers, the Postal Service is recommending visiting its YouTube channel to find how-to videos on packaging preparation.

“USPS TV. You can find quick how to videos and that will give you all the information that you need,” Wright said. “So that when you arrive at the post office, you are ready to go.”
