UCHRA Offering Senior Employment Program

Men and women 55 and over looking for work can get special help through the UCHRA.

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) offers help to seniors looking to reenter the workforce, according to Coordinator Judy Randolph.

“I think it has a great impact on them because I myself was in the program,” Randolph said.

Randolph said applicants must meet certain requirements before being accepted into the program. Seniors 55 years or older, currently unemployed, residing in the Upper Cumberland, and meeting certain income guidelines are eligible for the program.
“The ultimate goal is to get our seniors back out into the workforce,” Randolph said.

Randolph said the program is not an actual job but more of a training program for seniors.

“It is to teach them new skills or upgrade skills they might already have to enable them to go back out into the workforce,” Randolph said.

Randolph said the program does pay seniors 20 hours per week at minimum wage. Training sites include volunteer and government agencies.
