UC Lakes In Good Shape As Rains Approach

The US Army Corp Of Engineers said Upper Cumberland waterways should be fine this weekend so long as the heaviest rains remain as forecasted in Nashville and areas northwest.

District Commander Robert Green said runoff will be an issue with Saturday’s rain as the ground is already saturated. He said the Cumberland River will likely rise at both Celina and Carthage, but levels should remain below the flood action levels. Carthage flood action level is 35 feet, 30 feet at Celina.

The Corp began reducing water levels Friday at Cordell Hull to prepare for the rain. Levels at Center Hill are expected to rise, but should remain at safe levels. At Dale Hollow, the corp reports water levels are not expect to rise into the flood control zone.

“We are closely monitoring river conditions and making strategic adjustments at our dams to manage water levels and minimize flood risks,” Green said. “Our priority is public safety, and we encourage residents to stay informed and prepared as this weather system moves through the region.”

Residents near rivers and flood-prone areas should stay informed, avoid flooded roads, and follow guidance from local emergency officials.
