Two Escape Injuries After Vehicles Catch Fire Wednesday

Two people escaped injuries when their vehicles caught fire on Highway 70 West in Putnam County Wednesday.

19-year-old Hugh Harris of Elmwood now facing a charge of failure to exercise due care.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Hughes occupied a 2017 Kia Optima that slammed into the passenger side door and fuel tank of a tractor trailer turning right onto Sullins Hollow Road.

Officials said the impact caused the tractor trailer to ignite and completely burn both vehicles.

Speed believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s crash report.
