TTU Students Return To Cookeville For Spring Semester

Tennessee Tech returns from Christmas break ready to begin its spring semester.

Some schools changed openings due to the recent COVID variant surge. Chief Communication Officer Karen Lykins said Tech compared its date to others to make a decision

“Most people did not change that are in our sphere of colleagues,” Lykins said. “It’s just that they had a original start date that was a little bit later. So, there were some discussions but because we were so close to the start date and we felt like students for several reasons were ready.”

Lykins said financial aid packages also a factor since it was set for the original date. Lykins said free vaccinations and COVID testing remain free for students coming back. Lykins masks will be recommended as will all other CDC guidelines.

“Based on our self reports, our faculty and staff have a very high rate of vaccinations,” Lykins said. “We have spent the fall encouraging in many ways as we can think possible to encourage students to get vaccinated.”

Lykins said last week’s snowfall did cause for a different move in schedule over the weekend. But, the high energy remains as students return to class.
