TTU Student Senate Working To Form Stronger Partnership With Local Government

Tennessee Tech’s Student Senate is working to form a stronger partnership with the city of Cookeville and Putnam County.

Eli Anderson is the Senate’s Secretary of Government and Policy. He said with the many Tennessee Tech students calling Putnam County home, he believes there is a shared interest in meeting the needs of students.

“Part of my job at the student government is reaching out to local government and even state government and making sure that the needs of students are being met,” Anderson said. “And finding ways we can cooperate with government partners.”

Anderson said meeting those needs begins with having a working relationship and a network of communication. He said as a County Commissioner in Morgan County, he understands the importance of that relationship should issues crop up.

Anderson said the Student Senate passed a resolution that he calls a preemptive piece of legislation to lay the foundation for these partnerships. He said prior to this, he could not think of the last time student government had reached out to local governments.

“And down the road, future student governments, and whoever the future leaders of Putnam County are will be benefitted from the work we’ve done now,” Anderson said. “So I’m looking forward to seeing what we’ll be able to accomplish.”
