Three UC Counties Need MyRide Volunteers

MyRide Upper Cumberland needs volunteer drivers to help seniors keep their independence.

Volunteers are needed in Putnam, Cumberland and Warren County. Upper Cumberland Regional Coordinator Carey Davenport said volunteers help seniors get what they need like groceries, medicine.

“It allows that volunteer to assist with them or it just might also be just the communication and spending that time with them, getting to know them,” Davenport said. “Because a lot of these clients maybe don’t have family near by. It gives them another outlet of somebody to actually get to enjoy life or share their life with.”

Davenport said volunteers can pick their schedule, my ride asks they make themselves available for three hours when thy drive. Volunteer Coordinator Beth Stephens said volunteers can help seniors that do not want to go out.

“Another thing we’ve been adding since the pandemic is the errands, we can do grocery shopping for our clients,” Stephens said. “They provide either one of the volunteers the list or give it to the volunteers directly and they do all their shopping and deliver it to them and they reimburse them.”

MyRide Upper Cumberland will meet with interested volunteers by appointment. There is a background check and orientation required to be a volunteer.

Volunteers will need to supply their own vehicle, secondary insurance will be provided to volunteers. The number to call for volunteering is 1-833-9MY-RIDE
