Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission Set New Regulations

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission set new regulations during their meeting on Friday. TWRA proposed these regulations.

Among the changes, the commission decided to return to the previous definition of an antlered deer. An antlered dear must at least have antlers that are three inches long.

Doug Markham manages communications at the TWRA

“Anyways, we took the three inches away and said, ‘Hey, if its antlers just break the hairline we are going to call it a buck or an antlered dear from now on,'” Markham said, “Well, it didn’t do exactly what we thought it would do and hunters didn’t like it.”

The commission also voted to prohibit drones for hunting purposes.

“Our agency doesn’t feel like is a very ethical way or even sometimes a very far way for hunters hunting around you,” Markham said. “Because they are so loud and can be disturbing to the people nearby.”

The commission banned cervid urine from use in Tennessee. Cervid urine can carry Chronic Wasting Disease. Synthetic urine can safely and legally lure deer.

Registered disabled hunters can hunter with air guns during the state’s archery-only seasons. Everyone can use air guns during the modern gun hunt as well.

The new regulations will take effect on July 1.
